Very good one, gives insight into what Dante and Rodney have been working on, new staff, the new players we drafted etc. Definitely worth a listen. It starts at about 12:30

https://www.deseretnews.com/article...t-Looking-at-the-future-of-the-Utah-Jazz.html

Some highlights:

-During the season Quin has been focused more on the group, on the system and how the group played as a team, and now is the time when they are focusing on individual improvement of the players.
-They are not grouping the guys by position, they do exercises that they would need in order to improve specific things
-Dante is working on balance a lot, being able to attack in different ways, footwork - off one foot off both feet, change of pace, etc.
-Specifically mentioned finishing more creatively off of one leg.
-Rudy and Favors are doing similar exercises for balance.
-Rodney has been working on post game :) Quin said "I don't know if you've seen him in the post, but he's a decent post player".
-Olivier played well in the workout in SLC
-A lot of the players have been in Utah working on their game, he says there's been a lot of good energy in the gym thanks to both players and coaching staff.
-Talks about new staff additions,
-Overhauling what they do with video analysis, basketball strategies, different ways in which they use technology.
-Dante and Rodney bought into the importance of the defense last season, so he hopes the new rookies will do the same.
-Trey Lyles has good size and moves well for his size, a lot of his game is subtle in the way he contributes.

Second part is an interview with Dennis Lindsey, but I will let someone else add highlights if they want to...

Thanks.

So glad to to hear Exum, Hood, Gobert and Favors are busting their butts.

Why do I get the feeling that Jingles is sitting courtside on a cooler of beer yelling snide remarks at them as they train?

Exum gets the girl; Jingles gets the beer.

Nothing about Burks?

Nothing about Burks?

Lindsey stated that Burks may be our biggest free-agent acquisition (figuratively), which leads me to believe that they feel there's a strong possibility we will stand pat and that they need a narrative for doing so (don't need to convince me) or at least that they may have tentative plans that may or may not work out and worst case scenario stand pat.

Also, he mentioned that the deal with GSW that contained cash was used to purchase the pick for Rudy. In that sense, they feel that they got three first-round draft picks out of that deal rather than two. However, come to think of it, didn't this deal happen after we traded for Rudy?

Yes it did, but it's entirely reasonable that DL sold the deal to buy the pick on the premise that they would look for a deal that gained cash during free agency to offset it.

And not that it was said in this interview, but the $1.5M they picked up from Portland for Diez MAY go towards a buyout of Pleiss' contract. Pretty soon, no one is going to want to wrangle with Lindsey.

I thought there was a cap on how much an NBA team can put towards a buyout. Like 500,000?

Could they agree to pay him 1 million per year for three years, and 1.5 million signing bonus?

I see no reason they cannot write in extra money into the contract to compensate his expenses for a buyout.

But the Jazz can only put so much directly to the buyout I thought. Where are the CBA gurus?

Yes, I believe $500K is the limit. So they pay the $500K and just give him a bigger contract to offset any remaining amount. Likely a signing bonus so he doesn't have to pay anything out of pocket. That's what I meant by selling the pick to have enough to pay for a buyout.

Who's the interviewer? Sounded like the's crying every time he asks a question.

And before the interviews it sounds like a nervous student reading an essay in front of his class. Never heard of these guys, do they work for a local radio station? Maybe UofU or BYU?

Or he could be the writer of that article?

Carter Williams is a sports writer at DeseretNews.com. He hails from Rochester, N.Y. and spends most of his time Tweeting sports and researching sabermetrics.

Sounds like an intern from BYU. But that's ok; everyone has to start sometime and he's just a little nervous. I'm sure - in fact, I KNOW - I sounded that nervous when I had to make my first few presentations in front of corporate leadership.
