Do we overrate the Jazz?

Went nose to nose with one of thr best teams in the league, and we get this thread?

I hate people. We played freaking great last night. Shut up and pretend you know something about basketball you fool.

Holy smokes, guys. We lost a game on the road by 4 to the 2nd best team in the NBA.

We're 4-3 against an average schedule - not overwhelmingly soft. Chances are we'll be 6-4 after our first 10, 8 of which were on the road.

I think most people would say we're a 42-45 win team and we certainly haven't done anything yet to suggest otherwise.

I don't think we are overrated at all. Do you think the Cavs would say we are overrated?

We played awesome last night and I think we are going to become better as the year goes on. Favors just gets better and better. He is now our best player IMO. Burks is under so much more control than in the past. Hayward is still figuring it out since we have more weapons stepping up but he will figure it out for sure. Hood is a special player and he will be an All-star someday. Rudy just changes the game and as he matures it is scary to think of what he will do.

I think we'll make the playoffs and in a few years will go deep into the playoffs.

They should have him on the floor 31 minutes per game, not 27,

This.
He should also be starting. (Which would get him over 30 minutes per game)

I like ribbons, but can I have a Coke instead of a juice box?

I'm more in line with what PG_AB said. Jazz look like a team that will finish around .500. But a key injury throws them into the lottery. They have less depth than we thought as it appears Lyles is nowhere close to contributing and Pleiss/Withey must be really bad to both be riding the pine.

I was thinking a definite 7th/8th seed before the season began. Some were very excited after our first six games, with visions of sugar plums and home court dancing in their heads. I'm merely pointing out that we're further away at this point than many would like to believe. Lindsey has a lot of work to do, The cake is missing some key ingredients. If that's being teenage girl dramatic, then I'm guilty as charged.

This may be true but what do you think of our team?
Hayward: pretty damn good right? fringe all star
favors: pretty damn good right? fringe all star
Same could be said about burks and hood.
Rudy is a beast.
Trey is coming along.
I think we all think quin is pretty good coach.
I believe in DL
Super young core that will only get better

No reason to be pessimistic, or under-rate this team.

There are a few posters that have blinders on, a few that are overly negative, and a group that for most part are reasonable, especially compared to other fan boards. Every fan hopes their team will do better than they probably will. Just the nature of sport.

Since the consensus on the board is that the Jazz should compete for one of the bottom playoff spots and that is where they are, I'd say the board is pretty balanced. Schedule has been easy (rank -= 22/30) but road games are not. If folks were screaming for a top 4 I'd agree with you.

You've selectively pulled facts but omitted others.

To counterbalance:

Many road games. Played well against Cave (a top team) on the road. Wins against respectable Pacers and Grizz.

The third youngest team in the with #5 defensive efficiency and #11 offensive efficiency, #10 Sagarin ranking.

Burke, Burks, Hayward, Neto, Ingles all 3P%>0.350 (league avg 0.323)

I also liked how the Jazz were pi$$ed about the Cavs loss. Especially Favors. Not taking it as an "moral victory." They tasted the victory and let it go.

We're not overrated. We won last night's game - the refs simply screwed the Jazz. Also, Exum is out and he would have cut the production of Williams or Irving (had Irving played).

We are doing fine. Burke, Burks, and Ingles look solid off the bench. Chris Johnson is even showing some progress.

We need to get more production out of our bench bigs or get new bench bigs. It's a solvable problem if it continues.

If you would have told me Hayward was going to have a subpar game and that Mo Effing Williams was going to score 29 pts on near perfect shooting I would have guessed we lost by 20 last night. We hung in there with one of the three best teams in the league and LeBron was clearly into it last night. No reason to go crazy here.

Has anyone ever said we would get home court advantage in the playoffs this year? I think everyone is on the same page (including you), so no, we're not overrating the team. 7th/8th is the hope. Everyone has been saying this all along.

In terms of our future hopes of winning a title, I think we still need "that guy"--the type you tank for (and we did tank for). A lot is riding on the development of Exum.

This.
I hope that exum isn't the difference in being title contenders or not, but he might be. That's scary.
I'm still hoping that Burks, hood, and Gobert improve by allot and Hayward and favors improve a little. That happens and we might not need exum to be superstar. Allot to ask but all of them are so young, offer different skill sets, are not locker room problems, are coachable, and are pretty good already, as we saw last night.

Our core is pretty Damn good and not peaking yet.

I'll always be of the opinion that you need a legit star to win it all. There are some examples that go away from that trend, like the 2004 Pistons, (and granted we are building around our defense like they did), but I still think we'd have much better chances with a #1 guy. I know it's a scary thought right now, but I honestly do think our Championship hopes lie in the hands of Exum. Either that, or something insane happening like Durant coming here in the offseason. Winning it all with a bunch of B+ offensive weapons isn't a typical recipe for Championship success.
