Do We Promote From Within Next Year?

Bricky, Ekpe and Thabo will be unrestricted free agents. Will we do like was done with Georges last year and promote some Stars up? Will Naz and Cavanaugh get deals and then who would get the two way deals? I would think Cousins, Herpes and Lyles would be candidates those spots. This assumes the draft use the 1st round pick for a player on the regular roster.

Bricky will be back on a 1+1 deal like Favors has. I'm guessing Ekpe and Thabo will be gone. And I'll bet the Jazz leave a roster spot open so they can have more flexibility to give players 10-day contracts in case of injuries. Probably have 2-ways from your current list.

It all depends on if we land someone of note. If yes than yes. If no than no. If no, we replace some with others of similar level. Sefolosha is gone. Same with Udoh imo. If we land that free agent we will have to promote. Otherwise we splurge into depth.

His defense makes him 2nd string on 20 teams imo.

Bet he gets around 5 mill a year for 2-3 years.
Well, $5M isn't "getting paid." He's getting $3.4M this year. I think $5M is probably reasonable. But I don't see him as a 2nd string center on that many teams. The NBA values offense.

A 10-15 million contract as a second string is getting paid. for 2-3 years. Context.

Fans and media value offense. Smarts GMs value both. Holding a lead while you bench is in is MASSIVE. Udoh is huge towards that goal. See playoff teams. Or bubble teams like Lakers, Kings, Magic and Hornets.

I guess we differ on our definition of "getting paid." I define it as what the average contract value is, so $5M/per doesn't strike me as "getting paid" vs. what he made the last two years with Utah. Now maybe if he were offered the full MLE for 2-3 yrs., I 'd call that "getting paid."

We do then. Before Utah he was in europe. “Getting paid” is contextual.

My main point is Udoh’s defense is exceptional. It’s far beyond “blocking a few shots”. I’ll call him the best back up defensive big in the league. That will get him offers and money.

Udoh is gone. I bet a team could make him into Dewayne Dedmond
Very different players. I’d have Dedmon be my target if Favors is gone, though. I’m convinced we’ll trade for Love when every other option falls through. If/when that happens, I’d be content with Exum/Bradley for Patty Mills and then sign Dedmon for part of the MLE. Getting Mills enables you to bring back Ricky because the flexibility of those two to split minutes (plus injury), in addition to Rubio’s Love chemistry.

Rubio / Mills / Neto
Mitchell / Royce / Vince Carter
Ingles / Korver / Someone
Love / Crowder / Niang
Gobert / Dedmon / Udoh

* I’m not advocating Love, just stating that I think that’s the most likely scenario.

A few months ago I would have agreed with this but given that Favors is quite possibly playing the best basketball of his career and Rubio has regressed back to his awful shooting this season, I think we keep Favors and either upgrade at point guard or move Mitchell to the point and bring in a good shooting guard. I think Rubio's a goner.

Lord oh Lord I hope we upgrade bricky

In which case the most likely scenario is a massive DL failure.

Are sigs still a thing? But if so I have, had, trust DL as a sig. but he has to land a good free agent. Or trade for that third cog. Not doing that is a huge fail. He has to land that fish. No more excuses

Hell, I’ll let him take a shot at my ex. She’s 5’10, 160 (ish) and a double D.

Or hell me. I’m 6’1 and 160.

Just land them damnit.

Can you feel the Love tonight?

Nope. I most certainly can not. The fits no longer good. Two season ago sure. But now? Nah...
Gotta embrace it. If someone had said last summer that DL would look to cash in cap flexibility for Mike Conley, people would have said they’re [the poster] ****ing nuts.
