I mean,

1. The Jazz never liked Hendricks very much and just picked him because he was the last available guy in their tier (with them wanting the first 8 picks more)
2. Hendricks was much smaller and a much worse athlete than Lively who went 3 spots later.
3. The Jazz adored Cody Williams and took him over far better athletes taken right afterward (Ware and Carter) who were also super long.
4. The Jazz picked Keyonte George (who has short arms and whatever tools) over the toolsy Cam Whitmore because George is very intelligent as a person whereas Whitmore came off as an extremely stupid person in interviews.
5. The Jazz probably picked Cody Williams because he's so smart off the court as well.
6. It's not clear how many of the Jazz's scouts from the last two years remain on the team considering how mediocre the results have been.

If the Jazz are picking based on off-court intelligence, Cedric Coward is probably a guy they're very interested in. But they may be feeling very burned by that after taking Cody Williams so high last year for his off-court intelligence.

The Jazz also picked Cody Williams and Brice based off the idea that they were in such terrible shape that they would end up being steals when they got in good shape... But they seem to hate Brice and Cody now so I don't know if they continue that trend by taking Queen or Noa or something.

They've generally picked guys who rank very highly going by Kevin Pelton's grading... Except for Cody Williams who ranked as an undrafted free agent. That could suggest they have a lot of analytics guys and the non-analytics guys got fired after the Cody pick. If that is the case, then Kon is almost certainly going to be the pick.

Fears is the number 5 guy on DX. You can have your own opinion about how they do things now, but I think everybody has to respect them for having the best intel. If DX has Fears 5, there’s got to be teams in the league that see him at 5 or higher.

Having said that, Fears isn’t a guy who comes across as a DA guy to me. If we had a tier from 3-7, I’d say it includes Fears and Kon. As much as I love Kas it doesn’t seem like he’s in the picture.

My speculation:

Again, because you seem to be too dumb to read.

When the Jazz have picked in the lottery, they opted for the combination of best athlete with length on the board at a position that Walker Kessler does not play. We can ascertain they value positional size at wing positions when obvious skill isnt available when picking highly.

I doubt they want to use the #5 pick on a guy like Kon or Kasparas. They will want to take a swing. Ace/Tre are the most obvious swings, and if VJ is the one who is left at 5, he is probably also the obvious swing UNLESS they really think Maluach has a chance to be special.

I think Maluach is the big wildcard for almost all teams because it's hard to pass on that combination of fluidity, size, and potential shooting upside, though I would be shocked if the Jazz did so because Maluach isnt *that* much bigger than Kessler and I dont think the shooting stuff is advanced enough to really believe in it as a bankable skillset moving forward.

They had two lottery picks, one of them they did not like at all and were openly mad about and one that they loved who was a catastrophic bust.

George was picked literally two spots after the lottery too.

How on Earth is valuing a pick at the exact range you picked him not liking a player? I guess they werent over the moon in love, but that is definitely still "liking" the pick you got.

Yeah, we can't extrapolate any information from the George pick because he was two spots after the lottery.

Cody and Keyonte were the two picks the Jazz absolutely adored and were super excited about and they share a couple things in common.

1. Were out of shape in college (Keyonte was a few pounds too fat, Cody 40 pounds underweight)
2. Were one and done kids.
3. Were elite interviewers who seemed extremely intelligent off the court even though their on-court intelligence didn't seem to match up.
4. Neither had great tools at all.
5. Both had some ball handling/shot creation ability but were not great at it.

But Keyonte had no length at all so it's hard to say they value length that much. Collier and Filipowski also have short arms (very short in Filipowski's case)

But the Jazz have benched Keyonte and Cody is on his way out of the league so who knows how their approach will change.

Jazz reportedly like positional size, length, athleticism and shooting/potential. They may concede that none of these 18 or 19 year-olds are ready to defend. They may also believe they can improve a prospect's shooting.

Ace and Tre would make sense. Fears and Kon might be iffy, imo.
