What's new

Does anyone still like this team?

The teams always had cliques. The problem is everything’s been catered to whatever the **** Donovan wants and all of Rudy’s clique is gone.
Did you actually read this tweet? Isn't Rudy Gay literally saying that we have a system built completely around Rudy and when he is out we play a completely different way (switching)? Don't the truly elite teams have the flexibility to do a bunch of switching as to not get caught out as much in iso situations? And what does Rudy Gay's comments have anything to do with Donovan Mitchell? If his statement irritates you, shouldn't coaching be to blame?

I've had nothing to say sometimes (incredible claim), but if I do a blank post it's probably because I'm so bored with the subject I just fall asleep or something.

Expecting humans to conform to any ideal is like expecting puppies not to chew your stuff.

Or expecting a team not to have little biffs within.

Jazz team leadership has forgotten its roots. Miller family is off the rails, out of touch, not "holding to the rod, the iron rod". The new money is gone nuts.

Old Jazz were "I've got a Dream" visionaries, heroes.

I like Mitchell, he should go to Houston to help start something there.

2017 with the “super friends” team was a great time to fall back in love with the Jazz. Such a fun, likable team.

The feuding, whiney, underachieving 2022 Jazz brings, unfortunately, a great opportunity to jump off the bandwagon and return to prior hobbies. Especially with the godawful new management and godawful rebrand around the corner.

Barring major offseason changes, this will be my story. Probably the story of others too.

Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

You're right - the 2017-2018 season was the last time this whole thing was a lot of fun.

I don't think there is a single person to blame for any of it. Just the whole thing seems like a mess since then.

There’s a chance you could trade Donovan for enough other pieces to continue competing. Rudy won’t hold enough trade value. If you could get say, someone like SGA, and a piece or two in a trade, you might could not totally rebuild, but as of right now, they’re at the doorstep.
I’m not sure SGA would make much of a difference, even if he was available.

If the Jazz need to move one of the two, Donovan obviously has more trade value and seems more likely to demand a trade anyways (at some point). Trying to rebuild with Donovan seems a little risky, as the team would likely be uncompetitive for at least a few years and I doubt he sticks around for that.

A win-now kind of trade involving Donovan would be for someone like Dame.

I’m for Dame, other than his age. SGA is a pretty nice player. He’s just been stuck in the perpetual intentional tanking mixer his entire career. If you could get SGA+ some for Donovan, I’d do it without a second thought.

I like a trade of Donovan for SGA + something from that OKC pick warchest.

Sending Donovan to OKC would just be rude though.

This isn’t a conversation worth having. Management would never have the stomach to move Donovan in the absence of a trade demand. That would go against the entire ethos of the franchise, which is letting fear of not being good get in the way of pursuing greatness.

Candidly, I just don’t believe the talk of “big bad things are gonna happen if we don’t win in the Playoffs.” I don’t think brass will trade Clarkson, Bogey, or Conley this offseason, let alone Rudy or Don. It’s just not how they’ve ever operated.

They will make a tiny incremental change like moving Royce and will justify keeping this roster largely together until it organically falls apart and we are left with nothing. They will sell this small change as the panacea for all problems, some Jazz fans will buy it, and we’ll wash, rinse, repeat this approach until Don demands a trade and we are in an endless, assetless “rebuild,” which is a polite way of saying a multi-year free fall.

And we’ll be wearing that godawful bumblebee color scheme all the while (side note: at the Clips game a few weeks ago my wife asked me why everything in the arena was black and yellow. I explained the rebrand. She thought the new color scheme was awful).

Just watch this all unfold.
