Not exactly true. Only by staying in Utah does he get a >$20 million raise on his current salary and a max extension inked before the upcoming season.

In a scenario where he has a bad/injured year that could jeopardize his future earnings, the R&E could be securing (ball park) $100 million that he MIGHT not otherwise.

I understand that. The stability comment was related to rumors that he would delay signing the R&E so that he couldn't be traded at the deadline.

This about future of Lauri and his family as much as anything. Its a questionmark hanging over the fact where he lives and grows his kids at which could change in an instant.

You really think that uncertainty dragging has no affect on him and the only variables are our price and their price?
And I don't mean to totally dismiss this... and I might go to the Warriors and tell them to bring their best offer next week or we just pivot and start working on finalizing the details of the extension.

...should be enough to put the Jazz on an upward trajectory in a couple years. Obviously, it would be great to get one of Flagg, Dybantsa, Boozer, etc., but no matter what the Jazz do the odds of that happening are pretty slim.

If I'm happy at my job but I'm willing to listen if somebody offers me a massive raise to leave, that doesn't mean my Plan A is to see if I can get a massive raise to leave.
It does if you pursue those offers tho. Doesn't mean you're not happy if you stay at that job but it does mean that plan A is to see if there is a better option for yourself/your family (or your NBA franchise). If plan A was to keep that job, you wouldn't pursue offers. Especially if doing so could potentially put it in jeopardy.

And even if you don't believe that the FO is pursuing those offers, they certainly aren't discouraging them. Which only brings risk if plan A is to retain Laurie.

Plan A) See if someone will overpay for Lauri & fully tank

Plan B) Tank with Lauri if we don't receive the offer we're looking for

We're good with both options but have a clear preference imo.

I might just be arguing semantics. Idk. I'm hello

I think you're confusing "pursuing" with "being open to listening to"

And I think we are listening with real intent, but I'd guess we are operating as though we are keeping and extending Lauri until the offer moves over the line.

I understand the difference. I believe we are pursuing offers. Similar to how we did with Mitchell & NYK. We're just attempting to appear as if we aren't in order to maintain leverage.
Well... we kinda know now that behind the scenes Donny had told them he didn't want to be here. Lauri is very much the opposite... and I believe it at least until he signs his contract.

The messaging with Mitchell was that we were actively shopping him but would be okay keeping him into the season if we didn't get the offer we wanted.

That is very different from the messaging with Lauri.
