Does Lauri Get Traded?

Does Lauri Get Dealt Before The Season Starts?

We got ripped off trading Gobert then. I don’t care to dig up these discussions again, we’ve talked over it a million times. If you expect a Luka like trade package, so be it.

What I’m wondering is how we’re feeling about standing where we are because a couple months ago the idea of doing what we’re doing is as blasphemy. Do we hate the idea of moving forward with Lauri, or do we need an unfathomable trade package to move us from that position? Now that it looks like we’re moving forward with Lauri, do we still hate this idea?
Still feel like the nexus between picks-based, player-based, and not an outrageous ask is:

-Podz
-26/28/30 picks
-27/29 super swaps
-Moody or another swap

I wanna let Podz slide but he has to be in the deal. We gotta get something that has any actual measurable value. Those picks really could be nothing, especially if they keep Podz (and he’s star-ish).

That would not be the best practice. Hey Lauri you could get moved but also here’s this extension just in case.
I mean what would best practice be then. Hand him the contract 2-3 weeks early and limit your flexibility before he can even sign the thing? Not negotiate at all and then get to 8/6 and realize he doesn't want to be here long term or his contract demands are a little more than you bargained?

These guys know the deal. They know they could get traded. Negotiate a deal that he would sign if presented to him at the appropriate date. Be as forthcoming or transparent as possible letting him know things could change. I mean if he signs the extension this week its an indicator that what I am saying happened. Or some version of it.

They are most likely not talking to Lauri directly about this but rather his agent. You can guarantee that they have had discussions about what the team is thinking and what type of offer will be on the table starting tomorrow.

The super swaps are fairly important. In my limited contact with folks in the know it seems the league may not be ready for super swaps. If they are regular swaps with like our own pick... bleh. Garbage is a strong word to throw out.
Then I’ll say it: straight swaps are total ****ing garbage (at least/especially if we’re not getting Podz). They’re not getting getting something for nothing.

I just don’t think it was agreed to at all yet.

Both sides likely know what the other is willing to offer/accept. Did it go beyond that to "hey we are working on some things and if we do this can we structure it another way?" I am not sure. If Lauri isn't somewhat sure something gets done I am not sure why he'd be working out with a key Jazz player with Jazz coaches and Jazz PR staff present. If we haven't presented terms that would be accepted I am not sure why all the reporting is that Lauri has been in communication with the Jazz and in lock step with them all summer. Is it that hard to believe they have the deal ironed out and would keep that from their competitors? The reasoning could be anywhere from something important to, its just none of your damn business.

Expand what you mean here. Do you mean they haven't talked numbers at all? How far down the road do you think they are, or do you think that negotiation starts tomorrow?

I mean, what is there to really negotiate on?

Im assuming they will give Lauri as much money as possible this year unless there is some grand master plan going on, which if that is the case, I would assume they would loop Lauri in on that as a "Hey, if you take X amount instead of Y, we can do this thing".

Outside of that, I would assume there will be some light negotiation on incentives and that kind of stuff.

Money lol. While the difference between $200M and $220M seems kinda small its still real *** money. I assume it would be something like "hey we will give you 4/200M in new money... its basically the max you'd get per year if you waited until next year... that good." If Lauri says its good then you simply say "we are going to be looking at some things that might help us get a guy so the amount we can offer with space this year may change but overall dollars will stay the same... does that still work?"

I just assume whatever that dance looks like that it has happened already with the caveat that a team could still blow them away with an offer but not likely.

I’m just saying I don’t see a scenario where they agreed to an extension and then Lauri was cool with getting his name floated in trade rumors for a month.

Yeah, the Jazz are going to give Lauri all the money and I doubt he would accept less unless there was a good plan for the money he doesnt take to be used to make the team better.

I dont see the Jazz hardballing this. Lauri is a max player who has been underpaid the last two seasons. The negotiation points will be incentives.
