Does the R&E get treated like a signing for trade purposes? If he extends do we get the magical 24hrs window to trade him to another team before it solidifies? If so, could we see Wiggins in Utah?
no. we'd have to wait 6 months to trade him. Can't do it as an extend and trade. If he doesn't sign on the 6th then we can't trade him until next offseason because the 6 months will run past the trade deadline.

Does anyone have a good conspiracy theory on why we haven't signed anyone yet? I believe the only reason we wouldn't do that is to sign them after we use our cap room. The Lauri R&E won't take up the whole cap space, so what could it be?

(I'm pretty sure we are just keeping our options open, but would love to here some more fun guesses)

There is BI... some think an Okoro offer sheet could end up coming out. I think it might be more about just doing the right order so you can maximize the leftover space for salary dumps. That is super boring but it could also be that we may move Lauri and then want all the space for some mega salary dump.

If I had to guess something and accuracy was rewarded... I'd just guess its precautionary and we see a salary dump deal that yields a second or two.

Wake me up when you get to the spicy part.

I think the reason is because we are trying to tank this upcoming season.

Okay fine... Imma double down on boring on yo ***... we aren't doing anything with the space. Just keeping powder dry and Ryan will end up pocketing the money and JZ will talk about how we are reinvesting it in the program so its an amazing thing.

It's actually the opposite of what you would expect, but I'm guessing you misunderstood what I meant.

We haven't officually signed any of our draft picks or Eubanks. We are maintaining the maximum amount of cap space available. Typically a team would do this to sign a big free agent with cap space so they can use exceptions for their other signings.

It's also been reported that we are saying no to salary dumps right now...

C'mon, let's get creative.
I noted this situation a week ago and said that the likeliest reason is they want to frontload Lauris deal as much as possible, making the future years cheaper.

The other option really is trade for (or sign) someone using the space but only after we first secure Lauri.

I'm pretty sure we will still have $10M+ in space even after we give Lauri the max we can give R&E.

Also, not looking for most likely, but most exciting.

Oh I see. Ya I think we will just sign our picks and eubanks and tank. Why we are waiting? No idea. Probably just want to get Lauri done first and means nothing

Maximum flexibility.

They want to get above the floor but hold onto some cap space to absorb deals midseason.
