Does Sexton Get Traded?

LAL, DET, CHO would be my teams to watch.

I think a team that is disappointing or surprising would be the Sexton team. So say Detroit looks fairly solid does it embolden them to add in a little spice. Say the Lakers are a little flat do they get a little desperate to do something.

The issue will be Ainge. This whole value based approach he lives his life by is a two-edged sword at times. He will not likely get the quality of assets he desires for the quality of player that Sexton is. That gap seems like it would be impossible for a guy like Ainge to stomach.

I would much rather have Ivey than that knicks first which I think could be in the 25-30 range. If the pistons were willing to do Ivey and an unprotected 29 pick then I would do it but I doubt they make that offer. My guess is they want to get a look at Ivey and Cade together with a new coach before making a decision on that pairing.

I was trying to think of what kind of season could trigger a Sexton trade, it's all over the board tbh. I think if he has a poor start to the season season, he could be traded for next to nothing. If he has a great start to the season, he could also be traded for max value...although the Jazz might prefer to keep them (don't think the FO is as interested in losing on purpose as the fans). Anything in between could also lead to a trade.

I think the most likely case is the one of DET or CHO gets spicy in the east (play in line is around 31 wins from Vegas) and then they see Sexton as both a piece for the future and added boost to their playoff run. I could see LAL wanting Sexton to boost their playoff chances, but they've been oddly unambitious and seem to be fine just being the Bron and Bronny team.

Keldon has more Barnes than Gordon Grant imo. Not really interested.

I'm not very interested in him either, but he's a classic "the idea of this guy" is good and that will lead him to be overrated.

Zach Collins for Collin Sexton works straight up and the Spurs have a ton of picks.

If I was the Spurs I would be aggressive in trying to add Sexton while they have CP3. That would be a great learning experience for Sexton.

I think SA leans into whatever direction the team is trending. I think there’s a possibility they’re still a bottom-5 WC team, at which point they will probably do a post-deadline nosedive. Conversely, if they’re, say the 7th seed heading into the deadline, maybe they’ll start tossing chips in. Either way, I think they’re standing on their chips now.

Detroit makes a ton of sense for Sexton, but they have no first rounders from other teams and have their own first round picks tied up in protections. They have shown a desire to compete with their off-season moves, so they should be very interested in a Sexton for THJ swap.

I think Danny will have to settle for a mediocre Sexton deal ultimately. Would Detroit do an unprotected 2029 pick (the first pick they can trade I believe) and THJ? Would Danny take that? Can the Jazz ask for Ivey and reroute him for something else? I think Sexton is worth more than a single pick, but two first from Detroit is probably untenable. They do have a lot of 2nd round picks.

Get Detroit’s ‘25-‘27 protected pick from the Knick for Kessler, then Sexton to Detroit and reduce/favorably modify the Detroit pick received via NYK (plus Ivey and some other sweetener?).

OR… make it a ‘25 swap and ‘26 unprotected. HMMM

I'm not extremely anti-Ivey, but there's currently too many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to players who need to be developed and looked at plus you have more coming in from 2025 rookie class. The Jazz dont need another young rookie prospect. If I'm trading Sexton I'm trying to prioritize getting a pick in 29/30/31.

I just dont see the point in trading Kessler. The Jazz will stink without Sexton because it's going to trigger Collier getting minutes earlier and going to put a ton of burden on Keyonte that he probably cant currently handle.

I dislike him as much as anyone, but a lottery protected pick doesnt do it for me.

I don’t dislike Kessler at all and it would be two protected picks (and probably some 2nds since the Knicks have a million of them).

The point in trading Kessler is that he raises the floor of the team more than anybody except probably Lauri and maybe Sexton. Lauri is here to stay, and I see no reason that we shouldn’t be looking at trading Sexton and Kessler if we can get proper value coming back.

We’d probably have to take back Mitchell Robinson but maybe you can route him to NOP.

I mentioned this before. It would be a big brain tank move, but I don't actually think the FO cares to do any moves to tank. I think we had this idea that if we don't trade Lauri we would just trade Sexton/Kessler to tank instead, but that likely won't happen. The Jazz strategy around Lauri for years has been to acquire another player through trade.

The pile of stuff ain't bad from NYK btw. I know we don't care about 2nd round picks. But BKN 25 and WAS 26+27 are about as good as you can get second round wise.

That is what I mean and it probably doesn’t but the Eastern Conference is crazy bad at the bottom and maybe some magic happens. But also, at least that pick turns into seconds (which if the Wizards tank out of conveying, at least one of those picks is basically a late-1st).

Anyway, just spitballing. Dialing in the value coming back from Detroit is just tricky. But if we’re just talking about what they can trade without dealing with the Knicks, I’d rather have ‘30 or ‘31 (maybe something like a protected ‘30 that goes unprotected in ‘31).
