Uh, no. Comey's testimony was extremely damaging to Trump. Was it enough to impeach Trump? Probably not by itself. But we'll see what the future brings with the rest of the special counsel's investigation.

colton, what am I missing?

All I have seen is that Comey said Trump did not ask him to stop the Russian probe as a whole, that he told Trump 2 times that he was not under investigation and that the WH lied about his firing.

None of that is really damaging IMO. If anything it appears to help the President.

I think the context that Comey recorded/memorialized each conversation with Trump speaks volumes when he never felt the need to do that in discussions with Bush or Obama. Definitely nothing impeachment worthy in my mind, but it is one straw that may eventually break the camel's back. (I think his wig is made out of camel hair anyway).

Perhaps, but it won't be enough to change anyones perception of him. My experience is that people usually fiercely support or oppose him. Not to much middle ground lol.

Did you actually watch the hearing? You seem to be missing quite a lot of context surrounding the president's communications with Comey. He assured him that he personally wasn't the target of a counterintelligence investigation, at the time, which Comey went through great lengths so make clear was technically true, but could be misleading.

While it's true Trump didn't ask him to kill the Russia investigation at large he confirmed that Trump pressured him to let Flynn go, as well as make a public announcement exonerating Trump. Something Comey felt was a bad idea.

We now know that the president is under a criminal investigation by Mueller for obstruction of justice.

There was also the tidbit that Trump never once had a conversation with Comey about what to do about future attacks by Russia on our democracy. I found that to be pretty remarkable.

The white house has already attempted to spin this as no big deal, but it's pretty obvious to see that Comey's testimony was incredibly damaging to the president.

I think people need to keep perspective about how long of a process investigations of this nature usually take. While I think the actions taken by the president rise to the level of an impeachable offense, it falls upon the house of representatives to begin the process, which, barring something truly shocking (in 2017 is such a thing even possible?) simply won't happen as long as the GOP is in control.

Mark my words, however, if/when impeachment proceedings occur much will rest on Comeys testimony today.

Just because some people are gullible enough to believe him and fiercely defend him does not mean the rest of the world should not call him out for his lies, bad policies, poor behavior and possibly illegal actions even if it makes certain people like him more.

Thankfully we have great media outlets who are not bullied by Trump and do good reporting despite Trump trying to suppress the free press in this country. Pretty sad that free press is under attack but it will survive his attempts to keep them from reporting the truth and show his lies.

Comey testified that Trump asked him to minimize the Russian probe, and to stop completely the probe into Flynn. And Trump did that in the context of asking Comey if he wanted to continue on as FBI director. Then, after Comey did not take those steps, he was fired. Now, you can argue that the questions about Comey wanting to continue as FBI director were innocent, and you can argue that that firing was coincidence, but to me it certainly has the sense that Trump fired Comey because he would not scale back those investigations. And if that's not obstruction of justice I don't know what is.

I do think based on this information that Trump did this out of ignorance but I dont think that is a good excuse as a President of the United States who has the help of his staff to make good decisions.
