Trump could have taken a box filled with copies of the most super top secret documents the US government had, decided they were no longer classified and stuck them in trunk of his car. The issue with Trump is the Presidential Records Act which requires that all records, classified or unclassified, be preserved for the public by the National Archives and Records Administration.

If Trump had taken the only copy of something, that could land him in hot water, but using the FBI to conduct a massive raid because the National Archives thinks he might have something they don't have a copy of is an unprecedented abuse of power. There had better be more to the raid then tracking down what is essentially overdue library books because if there is not more then this is nothing short of the Democrats declaring that so long as they are in power, they have more guns and will use them for any reason against their political enemies.
Most notably, the search warrant authorized FBI agents to seize materials from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence to investigate crimes in connection with the Espionage Act, which outlaws the unauthorized retention of national security information that could harm the United States or aid an adversary.

So he cant just take whatever he wants and stick it in the trunk of his car.

I hope you have recently learned something and now know this isn't true.

Trump has said that he was cooperating and the timeline shows that he was.
Sorry, but no. Cooperation would have been allowing the document removal on June 3, or getting better security than a padlock.

The government knew exactly what he had and they let him keep it in June.
How do you know Trump didn't turn them away in June?

If true, and I don't know why you would believe this tweet, then those would not have been the classified files that were grabbed.

So predictable.

We’ve now moved onto the phase that Trump was too stupid to crime. This happens every ****ing time.

The next phase will be, “so what? He did it? Whatever. The American government deserved this. After all, they’re the deep state that protects HunterHillaryantifahugochavezvotinachinesreleasethekraken!” Orange god king good.”

Just like Jan 6 has become a day of patriotism and glory for the right. Trump’s stealing of these documents will be seen as either totally innocent and/or completely justified by the right in a few days.

We have now moved from “Trump was too stupid to know this was a crime” to the final phase, “We did it, it’s fine. In fact, what Trump did was the right thing to do.”

This seems dangerous. What is Trump trying to accomplish here?

Why would Fox News do this? I thought they didn’t like to endanger judges? Isn’t judge safety like… Important?

After what happened yesterday with some Trump animal attacking the FBI, what are Trump and his propaganda sources doing now releasing names of law enforcement and doctored images of doctors? Any guesses? What do we think is going to happen to these agents and this judge and their families?

The right needs to tone down the rhetoric before they get more people killed. This thread is just full of mentally ill narcissistic loose cannons. Who knows? Some might even be posters on this board.

I dont get why everyone is talking about classified or declassified. He isn't supposed to take any documents at all. Classified or unclassified. I guess taking classified documents is worse but even unclassified documents are still not allowed to be taken and kept as it pertains to the Espionage Act, which outlaws the unauthorized retention of national security information that could harm the United States or aid an adversary. Note the bold. No mention of classification status. I dont care if he declassified something. If he retained documents of national security info that could harm the US or aid an adversary then LOCK HIM UP!

Its january 6th all over again. Trump getting his worshippers to go and do his bidding and attack his perceived enemies.

Presidents don’t accidentally end up with such sensitive files among boxes and boxes of documents hauled out of the White House at the end of their term, Eugene Robinson told MSNBC’s Ari Melber on Friday. (They’re not supposed to take any documents, which belong to the National Archives.)

“Every president I’ve ever known or watched or observed or reported on, every administration has been very extremely, meticulously careful with top secret information, with classified information,” Robinson added.

“When you get to top secret, you get to top secret/SCI, that most sensitive information, that stuff doesn’t lie around in the White House. It doesn’t lie around in the Oval Office. It doesn’t lie around anywhere, much less in the basement of Mar-a-Lago. It just doesn’t,” he said, using the acronym for “sensitive compartmented information.”

Robinson noted: “This is another way in which, again ... the Donald Trump administration was like literally no other administration in the history of this country. No other administration would have, and certainly no other administration did, treat classified information like this.”

Good post. It doesn’t matter. He had documents that he shouldn’t and it sounds like he refused/lied/obstructed them from being returned. Lock his fat *** up!

Isn’t it? It’s a total repeat. Will we see Shootings? Kidnappings? Oklahoma
City like bombings? This is 100 percent on trump and his sick friends on Fox News.

But Republicans have largely been quiet about the spike of violent threats against law enforcement, despite making support for police a hallmark of their campaigns in response to Black Lives Matter protests against repeated local police shootings of unarmed Black people.

Trump supporters online, including one extreme-right activist who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, talked about being ready to use weapons (“lock and load”) and alleged the country was already in a state of “civil war” — repeating language long used by top cable pundit Tucker Carlson.

Not long after that, Trump rebutted a stunning Washington Post report that the materials he had taken included highly sensitive intelligence about nuclear programs by claiming, without evidence, that the FBI planted the evidence — the same unsubstantiated claim he made at the beginning of the week in fundraising appeals.

Fundraising appeals lol. The grift continues.
