What's new

Done hating on Kanter.

Kanter is already a starter in my opinion with is talent. He still will make a lot of mistakes but he is ready to play big minutes. The scary thing is he has a lot more potential because he has some intangibles.

Mid range shot
Kanter > Favors

Rebounding
Kanter > Favors

Footwork
Kanter > Favors

Running the break
Kanter > Favors

I know Favors is better at blocking shots and dunking but to be honest this is Favors 3rd year and I am honestly down on him. I am not worried about stats in preseason I am worried about Favors and him not improving his game at all over the off-season. His footwork is still horrible and his mid range shot isn't any better. He even lost the ball a few times and his hands don't seem as strong as they should be.
This is his 3rd season and I don't see any improvement except his frame is bigger. I still think he will be effective and a good starter but so far I haven't seen anything that shows he can be an all-star. I will obviously wait until the season starts up to see if anything is different. But so far its not looking good.

Not sure I agree on the running the break part.

Also, Favors is better at every aspect of defense.

I'm not lobbying anything here, sincere question..

Where do you guys think Kanter will be at this point next season, compared to Favors, this season?

I think Kanter will be the better offensive player and I think Favors will be the defensive beast.

I just hope Favors offensive game eventually comes around to were he can at least exploit mismatches and take advantage of his size. I think Kanter will develop at a faster rate than Favors, but I still think Favors will develop into the better all-around player.

Fair point. Running the break is probably a tie. But Favors hasn't shown much hustle so far. But totally a debatable point.

What are the other aspects of the game?? My point isn't to discuss who is better overall. My point is who has improved on intangibles like footwork and shooting. Things that actually make a difference. The way Millsap has improved every year with shooting, footwork etc. Has Favors?? Again I love Favors still I just was hoping for an improvement and I haven't seen one since he came here. Unless somebody can point something out?

Anyone think it's possible Kanter actually steals minutes away from Favors this year?

Definately possible, though i would still say unlikely at this point.

Ask me that question at the end of last year and i would have said not a chance in hell.

That's all pretty fair. If I said what you said differently, I may say that I think Kanter is a safer, surer player .. whereas Favors has the much more upside.

I think they will be pretty equal as far as thier value to the jazz..... Like cyrone said: favors better defense, and kanter better offense. But i dont think there will be a big difference between the 2..... which is a good think imo.

I would say Favors is the more sure, just because I think he is nearly elite in half of the game (defense) already. I guess you could say Kanter has that in rebounding, but that is much easier to find than an elite defender.

Can't say I disagree. Thanks for answering the questions.

Favors has a better feel for the game right now. He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He just needs to be able to hit that open midrange jumper and finish at the rim a little more consistently. A mean streak would be nice (Kanter seems to compete a little harder on offense).

It was clear, even last season, that Kanter had a lot more offensive skill than Favors. Better hands, better feet, stronger (and more assertive). I've always been more worried about the mental side of the game with Kanter. Even last night he was out of position on offense a little too frequently (at one point one of the scrubs had to tell him to move to the other side of the free throw line when Kanter slid in right next to him; he still posts up too deep and forces stuff/hesitates in crowds instead of passing out).

Favors should be learning from Millsap how to best use the baseline. He's able to explode to the rim pretty well facing up, either off a pass or one dribble. He'll likely be a better PnR finisher than Favors, and he should be better than Kanter finishing on the break. Without a point guard to use his skills, however, he's going to have trouble making a positive offensive impact if he can't keep the defense honest by hitting wide open midrange jumpers.

So, Favors and Kanter FC of the future, or not?
If Kanter can cut down on those turnovers and play better positional offense, and Favors can knock down open midrange jumpers, that's a pretty good frontcourt.

They both need to cutdown on the TO's, but I agree.

I saw that and was taken back!! Kanter will be awesome, but he still just has those "really" moments!!

They can already defend, rebound and run the court, Enes has some tantalizing offensive skill (that needs to be harnessed...it's hard to know how smart he'll be since he's played so little over the last few years), and Favors has the athleticism and feel to at least not hurt the team offensively. I think both have the raw talent to be solid NBA starters. Whether they're good enough to be the top 2 players on a contender is still a complete mystery.
