Donovan icing his foot during game

If his shot is falling guys also come out farther or contest harder and the other stuff opens up more.

He’s been playing at one speed against teams that can drop the big and GS which is a defensive juggernaut. He’s been bad but he’s being guarded by Klay and Tenple (very good an underrated).

It will come and I don’t think he’s hurt... he may not have the huge jump from year one to year two some expect. He may just get to his prior year levels but with more defensive attention that allows the team to get better.

I don’t see the injury stuff personally.

Why didn't OKC or Houston adjust and force DM to struggle and get blocked every other drive? You think it's just normal early season struggles like Saint Cy of JFC is saying? I'm not disagreeing. I'm genuinely curious.

Ridiculous. You act like teams couldn't watch game film of him until summer. NO ONE CAN STOP HIM when he's 100%. Not Houston in the playoffs, not OKC. No one.
You're delusional, that's the bottom line. Donovan is very athletic. He is also 6'3" tall. He isn't Lebron. He doesn't have advantages some guys have which is why he works so hard and has had to work so hard to be who he is today. He's undersized in some ways, but has an amazing wing-span. To act like Donovan is unstoppable or you can't adjust to him is beyond naive. He will now have to adjust to the adjustments made by other teams to him.

I'm saying Donovan spent most the off-season straddled with that injury. He may very well be a step slow right now and it may take 15 games for him to be himself again. He also struggled last season against the Grizzlies and the other team was the Warriors. Also if you remember and don't sugar coat your memory Donovan did struggle.......a lot against Houston. Do you not remember how tough the game was where he upset after the game heading into the locker room. He was very inefficient during that series and struggled getting to the rim or getting calls then.

In fairness to DM we also put him in some ****** spots. He has a lot of possessions under 7 seconds in the shot clock in iso against a bigger defender.

Tough to score for anyone let alone a second-year guy.

I remember Mitchell doing fine against Houston. I'd be surprised if he averaged below 20 ppg or below average TS in that series (but I haven't looked so I could be wrong). I get your point about rust and I agree it might be the culprit.

Delusional? Dude, you're kind of losing it and need to chill. When he's on he's about as unstoppable as anyone I've ever seen.

Yeah, going off a game where the whole team underperformed isn't fair. But all I'm saying is to my eyes he's not there physically... yet. Either it's just too soon or he has lingering issues. Time will tell.

He did struggle against Houston and OKC at times but that whole team was locked in and hit their stride. May take a few weeks for DM to click on and get a feel. We struggled as a team with teams that could drop the big into the paint and screw up our rolls. I think the most simple explanation is usually the most correct... I believe he is just missing some shots and hasn’t clicked in. He wasn’t using any of the midrange or offspeed drives much... just barreling into the paint doesn’t work if there is rim protection waiting.

I don’t think he is hurt... a lot of guys percentages are down Dame, CJ are ones I’ve noticed. Maybe his offseason work was lighter than anticipated because of the foot... all this nonsense about him spending too much time on his brand or traveling is dumb.

When Donovan struggles it's usually because his shot isn't falling. Then he goes to his inside game, which is so often just insanely unstoppable. His timing is the key. He puts people just a little off balance. He hasn't shown that yet. Glimpses, yes, but he's not there yet. So right now if his shot doesn't fall he doesn't have that backup.

Here are his shooting percentages which are the biggest issue in the first 3 games. This is the Houston series.

Game 1- 41% 3pt- 14%
Game 2- 28% 3pt- 25%
Game 3- 25% 3pt- 28%
Game 4- 33% 3pt- 28%
Game 5- 52% 3pt- 28%

I think we forget that he struggled at times. Game 1 was okay, and then he had 3 tough games, and game 5 figured it out again. He never shot good from 3 during that series and even struggled from 3 during the OKC series in a few games. The kid will figure it out, we just can’t expect him not to struggle sometimes.

McCollum shot 5/24 or something like that the other night. It certainly happens.

Oh wow. Very close to his stats the first 3 games of the season. I guess you're right. Brains aren't to be trusted.

It's just too small of a sample. GS defense is really good and they were giving top regular season effort. Memphis when they are healthy are very good defensively and drop the big. Sacramento he should have been more efficient, but its opening night and he did have some jitters (missed a shot as bad as I've ever seen him in Q1... whole team was tight in Q1).

I just think we all need to take a deep breathe... if the numbers look like this at game 15 or 20 start wondering what's up.

Agreed, I’m not worried about him, I’m just showing that because it’s obvious he has a few things to figure out and I’m as confident in him as I’ve ever been in a player he will be just fine. If in 20 games nothing has improved then we may can question things a little, but not now, I agree.

Is One Brow your partner? You guys seem right for each other.

Yup I was agreeing with your point too... like this isn’t something incredibly rare and could indicate something or just be a slump at a time when we have a magnifying glass on every game.

So I think DM's foot is fine :)
