Donovan wins ESPY

Tell me about it, getting flogged at work too. Got the next three days off tho, the old man is hopefully getting discharged from hospital after being in for a week and with a bit of luck i'll be spending the weekend with a thoroughly immoral woman.

I hope you take your beatings like a man

Super proud of DM. I'm not reading anything into him forgetting to mention the Jazz. You could tell the dude was nervous and was almost winging it. In so many other settings his is composed but here he seemed either nervous, shocked or star struck.
I'm more impressed with the amount of props he gave his family than a shout out to the Jazz. The dude loves the Jazz, we need to relax and not overreact. He won the damn award and we should be proud! Not only is he talented, naturally charismatic and somehow humble at the same time....but he's never said a bad word about the Jazz, in fact its the opposite.
We got a damn stud, we need to cherish him just like he is cherishing the city...
I mean come on he crashed a bunch of 4th of July BBQs, how soon are we gonna forget about that?

In his red carpet interview, he was his usual poised self, talking about Allen and Ingles, how he hopes to avoid the sophomore slump, and the fun he had with the ROY stuff. But he was also obviously a bit starstruck watching all the athletes around him.

His speech was interesting. It was the least polished thing I've seen from him. The moment was big. I don't fault him a bit for not mentioning everything he likely wanted. I actually didn't even notice the Jazz oversight until I read this thread. I just thought it was amusing that he was acting more like the youngster he is than usual.

And I adored his suit.

That suit was dope af!

I think my favorite part was when the camera panned over to Mrs. Mitchell and she had such an intense look of pride and happiness and was tearing up some. Not sure why that struck me.

I kind of think in a deeper sense, I wasn't just happy that one of our own got an Espy, but I felt some genuine pride like he was a kid that I knew who went on and made good for himself and the world, even if such a small degree. I am always happy when a Jazzman gets recognition they are due. But a like with Gobert getting the DPOY both from the NBPA and the NBA, it was like someone I knew got something they deserved. And judging by remarks I've seen elsewhere, I don't think I was alone.

Yeah, running it back this offseason was the right thing to do. I don't think any Jazz team had this sort of impact on the community ever.

Remember when Hilary Swank forgot to mention her husband when she won the Oscar?

They're divorced now.....

It's over Utah.

LOL - TBH I didn't even know The ESPY's were on last night let alone DM was up for an award - who cares about this BS...

Yeah, running it back this offseason was the right thing to due.
I have no doubt in my mind that this was the right thing to "due". Seriously. The more I think about it the more right it is.

Best case scenario: We get a top 3 seed this season and make it to the western conference finals or the finals. At that point we know we have a special team that can win a championship and we re-sign rubio next offseason, pick up the option on favors and run it back again in 2019-20 (and add another first round pick and maybe pick up a free agent or two).

Worst case scenario: The end of last season was a bit of a fluke and we barely make the playoffs or just miss the playoffs. At that point we can do an easy and quick reset and let favors, burks, udoh, thabo, rubio, etc go and have money to re-tool the roster around gobert, mitchell, ingles, royce, crowder, exum, allen. We can just use all that money coming off the books to try to go a different direction with the roster while still having a very good core locked into good contracts.

DL has done a fantastic job with this team.

*(in the worst case scenario situation we could also make moves at the trade deadline to re-tool the roster a bit early if DL sees things going poorly early on next season)

Loving this team/roster and the contract situations we find ourselves in right now.

I apparently hadn't had enough coffee when I wrote that. heh

I think worst case is losing in the first round. It is very possible. Utah could have easily lost to OKC last year and could this.

That might leave a conundrum on which direction to take. Home court and holding their own in the 2nd round is the minimum goal for me.

Well said.

I came here thinking this thread would be about the amazing award and instead find a prolonged worry session. Smh.

Congrats, Donovan. Thrilled to have you in Utah!
