What's new

Don't Ask, Don't Tell is officially history!!

This +100. As someone with 4 years active duty and 6 years reserve time logged in the USAF I think its important that people understand that we already had gays in the Military. They also rarely were kicked out when "found out". Most that were released we released because they either openly were mocking the system or they wanted out and knew if they outted themselves they would be released.

Not true. About 600 - 700 were thrown out every year.

There were incidents back in the 1940s-50s when troops were mixed racially, as well. No surprise or real problem there.

This IMO is a totally different situation though. I guess I hope I get proven wrong on this one. But I have known my fair share of soldiers who are very homophobic.

great first gays ruin the sanctity of marriage(or whatever its called). now they ruin the military.
whats next? the nba will be ruined by the gays. as players iwll be forced to wear sexy gay atire to appeal to the gay crowd.

Pretty low blow for someone who served his country with integrity. You expect tolerance from people but obviously don't tolerate the alternative opinion. Pathetic.

This!!!!

Once again, Katie's hypocrisy is pretty glaring.

But that's ok, we don't have to be tolerant to John McCain. He shares an opinion that I don't agree with. Maybe we should ban John McCain? I want to see the katie apologists bail her out of this one. They always seemed to have an excuse. What's their excuse going to be this time? Did John McCain drive thousands of homosexuals to commit suicide too just like Bro Packer?

sigh....

I do agree w/McCain in one respect, doesn't the military have enough to deal with already? I guess fighting 2 wars is easy anyway....

I don't think you understand how bigotry or prejudice works or why it's relevant to the rules of this site or society at large. I'll also address Marcus, Clutch, and Hopper since I'm nearly positive he's still lurking.

Taking issue with something someone has said, a stance they've made, or an action committed is reactionary and valid. Taking issue with the benign nature of a person's existence is not. How is this confusing?

Nobody has a problem with McCain because he served in war, but he doesn't get a free pass on every issue for the rest of his life because of that, either. He's done some transparently pandering and cowardly things over the years just as he's done some great things. Katie's argument is not that he's bad because he's straight, or white, or something that he doesn't have control over. Attacking the things he has control over - just as anyone else's - is fair game.

Also, how does having a policy of kicking out 'our' service members equate to helping 'our' war? Also, Packer is a hateful piece of garbage that is out of touch with even the religion he represents. He's the Beantown of the presidency of The Church.
