You cannot give consent to have your ability to give consent removed. As an individual you have a responsibility to make your own decisions, just as with authority you can deligate it but cannot delegate your own responsibility for the decisions made. As an individual you are the chairman, CEO and president of your own life. You cannot give that responsiblity away.

And I know that's not what you said J-spazz, but I just think that unless we're discussing the whether or not God exists, refernces to God should be left out of references to religion. If you adhere to any monotheistic religion, whether it's some type of Christianity, Judaism, Islam or something else, it's pretty much a given that God is part of the equation. So just say it's your religious beliefs, not your belief in god.

Not trying to start another big argument here, but following the tenets of a religion is not at all the same as believing in God. Plenty of folks believe in God even though they may share few beliefs in common. It is your adherence to a particular set of religious beliefs that leads you to your conclusions about homosexuals, not your belief in god.

I see your point, but I don't think it pertains to GVC's comments to me. I said nothing about religion, just about faith in God, and then I stated my opinion. If there is an issue with my opinion, that issue stops at me and has nothing to do with my religion.

I still feel I said it right, as to what I was trying to say. I believe in God. It doesn't matter if it is a type of religion or not. There could be no religion involved at all. I believe there is a God that knows more than I do, and is/was involved in this world, and that knows more than we know.
I intentionally did not bring any religion, or lack of religion into it.

The reasons for denying black people the freedom to serve in the military were not valid. It was based on racial prejudice that had nothing to do with facts. Becuase it was a flawed policy it was eventually changed.

The reasons for denying homosexuals the right tio serve (then eventually only denying them the right to serve openly) were not valid. It is based on prejudice and religious ideology. Our laws and military policies are not based on Christian scriptures. Our laws are formed to protect the rights of individuals. To protect one person from harming another. Our military policies are geared towards creating an effective fighting force. DADT accomplished nothing. It protected no one. Therefore it is a flawed policy that has been eliminated.

This is very different than pedophillia. In order to prectice pedophillia you must commit rape. Just as mentally ill people are not allowed to harm others, even though we do not consider it their fault that they might try, we will never allow pedophiles to rape children just because it "isn't their fault." We might eventually send them somewhere other than prison, but we will not tolerate thier actions.

There is no logical progression from allowing blacks in the military to allowing gays to allowing pedophiles. We did not go from being morally correct, to being less so, to being even less so with the next stop being completely immoral. That is not what is happening here.

That is quite a stereotype to be throwing around with nothing to back it up. Where is your proof that all gay people are weak minded? I would argue the exact opposite. With all the discrimination and whatnot gay people face, I feel they would have a stronger mind. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. I see no basis for your blatant stereotype.

When you assert that someone's behavior is detrimental to you, your family and society, without any reason, it's more than a little disingenuous to then say that you don't hate the people who undertake said "detrimental" behavior.

It's clear you're trying to believe something based on the dogma you subscribe to. No amount of reason, data, etc. would convince you you're wrong or otherwise misguided. You are firm in your belief because of your religion. Is this not true?

This is a funny post because I could say the same about you trying to believe something based on the "dogma" you want to "subscribe" to, and not amount of reason, data, or conversation would convince you you are wrong or otherwise misguided. By the way, persecution would be seeking out certain groups or individuals with the intent to harm physically, verbally, or in some other way.

I believe stating my opinion is just that. If I wanted to persecute someone on this board I would call them out by name, and ridicule, name-call, or demean, or more than that. Before you start throwing words out, think about what you are saying.
