Earl Watson anyone?

Anyone just see the report that Ollie is reportedly asking for $5M/per based on the contract given to Kerr? Figures he is worth more than Kerr as a coach with proven success.
Jazz may need to go to Plan B and bring in an inexperienced guy if they want to pay less than $5M/per for a contract shorter than 5 years.

I agree, why do guys with no coaching experience expect so much money?

No for the same reason I said no to Stockton. No real world coaching experience.

He has essentially been an Asst. Coach his last 3 years in the NBA. I know it's still a leap, but I actually think he could do it. Pretty sure he has been preparing for this knowing he has wanted to coach for a while now.

Dudes like Jason Kidd seem like they just decided to coach on a whim when he realized he couldn't play anymore.

There's no excuse for going with an inexperienced guy. With all the good coaches out of work and assistants looking for HC jobs, there's just no excuse.

Happens anytime a bidding war can be started. Same as with players.
Kerr actually got 5/$22.5M. So i can see how established coaches can justify asking for 5/$25M.

Jazz likely want a coach for 3 years at no more than $4M/per.

I would argue (but have nothing to back it up), that former PG's would likely make better coaches - on average - than any other position. They have to have a better understanding of the game than any other player. And I do see your point re: Watson. A couple of things in his favor are, as you mentioned, that he's been preparing for coaching for much of his career. Also, he's well-traveled so he's been exposed to a number of offensive and defensive schemes.

I'd rank Messina and some of the asst coaches (not named Boylen) ahead of him, but I could get on board with Watson. He'd could certainly rely on help from Hubie Brown and Sloan - that's like having the Library of Congress in your office. As long as he brought in experienced assistants, I believe Watson could be successful. On the other hand, the Millers might just say, "why didn't we just keep Ty and continue to let him learn and grow?"

Bring Watson in as an assistant. I'm sure he could be fine, but I think if we have the option to take a swing at a proven pedigree (i.e. Messina) there is no point taking Earl Watson, and hoping he amounts to someone like Jacque Vaughn.

Always hated Earl Watson on the Jazz, but I think he would make a good coach.

wasn't a fan of his playing on the jazz. That said but he could sure throw the alley oop and he was the only one with any balls to stand up for his team mates. Also think he will be a much better coach than player

I think the others aspect of this story that surprised me is that Watson has such a good relationship with some of ours guys. They've become friends and that's kind of cool.
