Not true at all:

Kidd: 7.7
Felton: 6.7
Augustin: 6.7
Wall: 6.5
Lawson: 6.5
Nelson: 6.5
Conley: 6.1
Paul: 5.9
Rose: 4.7
Dwill: 4.5
Evans: 3.9
Holiday: 3.7
Rondo: 3.5
Curry: 2.8
Teague: 2.5
Collison: 2.3
Nash: 2.2
Harris: 1.8
Westbrook: .7/4.3 Sophomore year

The highlighted players are the very best of the best or up and coming point guards, but all of these players are among the top 20-25 point guards in the league (I guess excluding Evans now). These are all of their freshman assist numbers. Knight is at 4.2, right in the middle of that group. He was the go to scorer on his team, improved tremendously over the course of the year and became a leader. I'm not saying he's better than Kanter or ever will be, and he's absolutely a reach at 3, but not in this draft. I'm completely split on Kanter/Knight right now, but I'd obviously lean toward Knight unless we can move Sap and give Kanter the nod over Memo.

This kid is a point guard. His turnover numbers are a little alarming, I agree, but he stepped it up big time at the end of the year and got a lot of unearned turnovers due to the inexperience around him (not excusing him at all). I think a lot of people accuse him of being a combo guard because of his size, but he plays like a point guard in the sense that he gets others involved and commands his teammates around the court. He's clutch, a proven leader, and a guy that wants to win. Chauncey Billups isn't far off, but I think he'll end up being more a "true" point guard than Chauncey.

I'm not saying I'd pick him over Kanter (yet), but in this year's draft, he's a great pickup at 3 and can very well be a franchise point guard.

You're throwing out assist numbers without looking at assists per minute. Sure, Rondo had less but he had more per minute (I think--it's 6am and I don't feel like looking it up again) than Knight. Curry's not a true point. And Westbrook had Collison running the point as a frosh so he too played little to no point. That said, Westbrook's numbers do give me some hope but again, he is maybe the best athlete in the league, something Knight will never reach.

I am looking at assist per game of every PG projected in the first round (https://www.nbadraft.net/2011mock_draft) and only Darius Morris stands out. Everyone else is in 4 to 5 range. And even Morris had 2.6 assists as a rookie, when he was actually a year older than Knight. Therefore, Knight's assists don't concern me. He is right there with other top prospects, and he did at a younger age than all of them.

Kragthorpe of Salt Lake Tribune seems to think Kanter is a lock at #3 - stating that Kanter is the "talented center the Jazz needs"

https://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/jazz/51833883-87/jazz-lottery-draft-pick.html.csp?page=1

Kragthorpe seems to have lost it. He is only concerned about the position. Kanter is a talented center, that's enough for him to draft at #3. Also, how about his idiotic statement how we should have pulling for Cavs because they lost LeBron and had a kid with medical problems sitting next to KOC. Would anyone here really not want Jazz to get #1, but prefer Cavs to do so, because of that?

From what I've seen from comparisons Knight could be a Russell Westbrook type and Kanter could be a Zach Randolph type player. Let's say they both reach that potential. who would you rather have: Westbrook or Randolph?

Good point, and to me Zach is probably too much of a ceiling for Kanter. The only thing of note Kanter has done is get youth MVP in Europe. Every year several talented young men win MVP in jr tournaments, and you never hear of them. One you heard of was Koufos, who actually took his team higher than Kanter and put better numbers. The problem with Kanter is, Koufos might be a better comparison than Randolph for him. Chances of failure are huge. Knight , on the other hand, accomplished something not many people can claim: as a 17 year old he joined a team in NCAA, and became its leader en route to #3 rankings in the tournament, while putting together good numbers. Kanter in the meantime missed a critical year of development. It's just too much of a risk to take Kanter, and reward potential is just not there.

Kanter will tear it up, just my opinion and prediction (and much more 'educated' than most on here). I think any of Irving (NOT happening), Williams, Kanter, or Knight is great for the Jazz. Sucks that it's a weak draft, but one of those four is our #3.

Not to be a dick, but its time to back up these statements. What do you do to make you more educated than most? I think you have been dying to have someone ask you anyways, so there you go.

No sweat, though I'm not dying to explain anything (as I've already done so).

I am close to the UK program. I've watched (live) Kanter teach, practice, and play. I've seen game film from his euro-ball being broken-down by UK assistants.

I watched Kanter totally school Nazr Mohammed (long story). Look, I'm not pimping Enes, I'm simply saying he's NOT the typical euro. He's a banger, tough as nails, and will be a fantastic NBA pro, fantastic. I'm still very bummed he was ineligible to play for UK this year, so I'm probably a little more sensitive (than most) to random people saying he's "unproven", will be a "bust" or whatever. I respect everyone has an opinion, I'm just sharing mine ... and from a little 'closer' perspective.

If I'm going to get a Euro I would prefer it to be a Turkish Euro. Memo's probably more of a finesse player, but I never thought he was "soft" like other Euros, but it seems like the Turkish guys that are coming over lately are tough and have game. I think Irving, DWill, and Kanter should be a lock for top 3. I like Knight, but don't want him at 3.

Brandon Knight supporters rejoice!!! It seems now our only competition if Walker (or Williams falling, but I would love Williams).

Fair enough, but you said that Knight's assists numbers were FAR worse than any of the better point guards in the NBA during their freshman year, that's hardly the case, especially when Knight played about 5 mpg at MOST more than any of the other elite point guards. Sure, per minute makes a difference, but not that big of one. He's right on par with several of the league's best point guards were during their freshman season, and was far and away the number one scoring option on his team. I don't discredit what you're saying though.

Thriller - I'm sorry, but is a point guards athleticism usually a key to him being a great point guard? Irving isn't any more athletic than Knight, so he clearly shouldn't be a top 3 pick either, right? My point is, you're completely under appreciating his other skills (very good shooter, great leader, excellent intangibles, knows how to get his teammates involved, obvious progression) and using his athleticism as the reason we shouldn't draft him at 3. Sure, he's not the number 3 overall pick in your average draft, but I don't have to tell you that this isn't an average draft. It's very weak and there are major question marks with everyone outside of the top 2. I'm not saying he should be our surefire choice, but we're not taking any more of a risk or any worse off than we would be picking Kanter, Biyombo, Walker, any of the Euro bigs or anyone else outside of Irving and Williams. This kid has top 3 or 4 potential, which in this draft is the best we can ask for.
