ESPN Insider: Blazers eye Matthews (why?)

No hope at all for him getting any better? Really? Rookies hit their peak during their 1st year?
If you're 24, your shot isn't terribly sound (but get good results), you've displayed close to 0 playmaking ability of any significance, your hops are average to below average, and every NBA team passed you over in a weak draft, they're all pretty good indications that you're not going to get much better. If Matthew's suddenly becomes Kevin Martin with D, I'll be quiet, but I don't see it happening.

There are worse thing's than being the broke-man's Raja Bell, though. (I really do like Matthews)

Oh, okay. Defense is the only thing that matters. That makes a lot of sense.

No of course it is not, but defense(plus the referee's pocket) is what wins championships. Boozer has never shown much effort in improving his defense since he has been here. I would say that has hurt the Jazz quite a bit once they hit the playoffs.

Nice backhanded compliment.

If I was Portland, I'd offer him the full MLE. If we match it, it straps us even tighter moving forward. If we don't, it's no big deal to them.

Those Spurs!

They're always trying to pick off our players!

Those pansies!

Oh wait, maybe.. Just maybe... These other WC teams see something that we all saw in Matthews... He's a pretty darn good player.

Except there's a finite amount of money to go around and the Lakers are one of the few teams over-the-cap that are going to blow/use their MLE (and already did, so Matthew's isn't joining the Lakers). The Blazers are a team that would spend, but they'd be beyond retarded to spend any significant coin for a guy that will be at most a backup when they already have 2 or 3 other options already. The Bucks aren't spending significant money either.

The Spurs might, after Jefferson bailed them the **** out. But they typically don't offer the MLE to anyone that isn't deserving of more than that (whether looking at production or market-value).
