One thing I've noticed since watching this tournament is the level of sportsmanship in Europe is way above that of the U.S. They play just as hard but they aren't nasty. They pick up their opponents off the floor, and there isn't the violence and hate going on that you see so often in the NBA. The Euro players show more class and respect for each other. The NBA really needs to clean up their act -- but over the years they allowed it to be that way with the Pistons' bad boys and Riley's thug ball, and you have had jerks like Iverson, Artest, and Melo. I used to especially hate the thuggish play of Rodman but the league let him get away with it. You would never see stuff like that in Euro ball.

Disagree. You need bad guys. You need someone you can hate. Playing tough/nasty/dirty is part of basketball, sometimes it may go over the line, but that's part of the game.

Agreed. When your team beats the teams of players like Melo, LeBron and Kobe, it just feels SO much better. Its rivalries, and hatred for players aforementioned that make this sport so great at times. I still remember me celebrating after Sap's destruction of the Heat, and Honz whooping Kobe's *** towards the end of the season. I am in the boat that it isnt nearly as tough as it used to be, and to me its unfortunate.

Well, this isn't what I've seen. Sure you can point to examples. But I've watched a lot of NBA basketball over the years and it's just not the same in Euroball.
Why not talk about the time Rudy T got cold cocked, I think it was Kermit Washington, and it broke his jaw and it pretty much ended his career. Fights are one thing, however, I'm talking about thuggish play -- Rodman punching a guy in the nuts, Iverson bulldozing opponents, Melo using his elbows like a karate kid, and Artest just being his thuggish self --- the Euro refs won't allow it and in my opinion they are better than the NBA refs. I particularly hated the Piston Bad boys and Riley's thuggish teams. I know Pat Riley up close and personal because I grew up in the same city as him. He lived on the poor side of town, a poor kid, who got to where he was by being tough and he carried it on into his professional career. Kind of like Jerry, except to me Jerry was much more of a gentleman. Riley's motto was foul until they call it when he was with the Knicks, and Rick Pitino was the same way, his early teams. Haven't watched his teams at Louisville, so can't comment on them.

There is a difference between playing hard, knocking people down, blood and guts, giving your all.....to just plain thug ball. Sadly, we are moving away from the hard nosed bad guy basketball of the past.
