What's new

Everybody thank Danny Ainge and the Celtics.

But Burke and Bazz is a pretty huge separation. Especially with the need of a PG.

That is yet to be determine but the Jazz needed a SF too. Of course I think Burke is better but it is debatable what the separation is. Both are living off of potential and Bazz disappointed more people. My point was that if Burke was gone CJ was still there so your claim that the Jazz would miss out on a PG isn't true. If the Jazz had decided to go another route they could have taken Schroeder at 14 too or gone with Bazz.

Why would the Jazz want to invest big with another big? That's kind of concerning to me.

The point is if the Jazz knew Olynk was at 14 they might not make that trade.

I agree they would have missed out on Olynk. Locke also said they had no problem taking Gobert at 14 either. There were options still is all I am saying. What helped the Jazz just as much is all the eight teams passing on Burke and the T-Wolves being willing trade partners. So you can thank Danny and I am not saying he didn't help us by telling KOC this information but there were greater forces that lead to the Jazz landing Burke. Now Burke needs to make Lindsay look like a genius.

You don't get it.

If the Celtics don't move up to 13 then the Jazz are taking Olynk at 14.........let that sink in.

Now the Jazz still would have the #21 pick but Schroeder and Larkin were already gone.

Danny Ainge and the Celtics trading up ahead of the Jazz to get Olynk forced the Jazz to make a trade.

Get it?

Not necessarily true. The Jazz may have still moved up when they saw Burke available. The knowledge probably let them prepare in advance though.

Yes that is true. But the point is the Celtics FORCED the Jazz to make the deal. If Olynk is still on the board at 14 I think there is a good chance they stay put. Or at least there is a big discussion in the war room and its probably 50/50.

If the Jazz had hindsight that Schroeder and Larkin weren't at #21 they still probably make that trade even if Olynk was available at 14.

Either way you slice it the Celtics moving to #13 put a 100% guarantee that the Jazz make that deal. And since I'm not very high on Olynk I am thankful the Celtics and Ainge chose to move ahead of us.

Ummm I think we really need to thank Detroit for picking Caldwell-Pope. I think Minny would have drafted him if he was there, and Detroit would have possibly picked Burke instead.

Very true, good point. If Pope is available for Minny then that trade probably doesn't happen.

Wonder if Portland would have done 14 and 21 for CJ?

Olynk is another Raef LaFrentz in the making. Watched him in the conference tournament and NCAA - guy is so frickin soft. He is going to fall in love with his jumper in the NBA. Which is fine if you're a big man and have Ryan Anderson's stroke - but I don't see that with kind of talent.

I still the Jazz need an outside shooting big man for their 3rd big. It definitely would spread the floor for Favors and Kanter. Anyone know if Jason Smith is available?

Are we sure?

How are you so certain that the Jazz do not do the Burke trade even if their view is that Olynk will be there at 14? That is certainly possible, I just don't know it to be certainly true (I could be wrong, maybe Lindsay said this and I missed it). Just because they coveted Olynk at 14 does not mean that they did not also covet a more attractive option (Burke) if he were to become available.

It sounds like Olynyk was more than impressive at the workout with the Jazz. Those aren't just 63/100 3 pointers like a 3 point shooting contest. They were off dribble, off screen, in transition, spot up, etc. Very impressive.

Dennis implied that the "news" was shocking and made them change their game plan. I think the Jazz still could have done that deal for sure. But its not a guarantee. I think the Jazz would have been perfectly happy with Olynk and then hope for Schroeder or Larkin at 21.

Either way though there was no discussion. Once they knew Olynk wasn't going to be there they went full foce in trading up. The Celtics forced the Jazz to make a trade.

Until I heard this Celtic talk I thought the shocking news was Philly trading their All-Star point gaurd to the Pelicans. I doubt they knew Noel would be on the board, but I think a deal like that was worked out before the draft with philly targeting 2 or 3 guys with the Pelicans pick.

Once they did the trade Jazz had to know that Philly would need a pg and MCW, MCM, and Trey would never fall to them.

KOC used to work for Philly and probably still has some friends there.....

So this thread is based on the notion that somebody "promised" the jazz they would be drafting olynyk? Don't think Lindsay would have made the trade before olynyk was off the board, if he really was his guy. I mean, you can't count on a team taking anybody in the draft. What if a guy they like more than olynyk drops? What if Dallas suddenly decides to keep the pick? Seems like the trade was on as soon as zeller was off the board.

If Philly lucks out and they get their pick in the top 3 and the NOLA pick somewhere in the 6-10 range, they will have a great outlook for the future.
