You are also completely ignoring the fact that he had played each of the past 3 nights with heavy minutes. People who lack intensity dont play well on nights like those. I also dont mind guys who play well on the big stage.
If you and Locke are trying to make a case for Monroe, by saying that he "steps it up when it counts" like in the Big East tourney, why do you two ignore the only tournament that matters, the NCAA?
What happened to Monroe in the NCAA tournament? Scoring only 19 points, committing 7 turnovers, and fouling out against a team who only had 1 big man over 6 foot 8.... Who looked like this:
Isn't too impressive at all. In fact, comparing this player's stats and size, he's very similar to Chris Miles of BYU. Think Monroe will face players better than Chris Miles in the NBA?
If Monroe truly is a "gamer" Locke is trying to persuade us, why didn't he truly step it up and take his highly favored team deep into the NCAA tournament? Why did they lose to a 14 seed in the first round of the tournament?
This is classic selection bias, Locke is a smart guy being a stats major (I think) and all. He's selecting a few games which give Monroe a favorable review.
If we are to accurately review Monroe, we should also include the most important game of the season in there, the lone NCAA tournament game. There, we'll see how much of a gamer Monroe is.
If not, then we should consider the long term reg. season. In which there were many games where Monroe played just, "Meh" in.
