Extend Hood ?

All of those things are easy to do though... so if you can get a deal done you clear the space and sign someone... if not you retain the rights and decide which to keep.

I forgot to mention also trading Alec. But yes, if there's a great FA you can do that - at the cost of not being able to retain Favors, Exum or possibly a solid backup like Udoh (don't really care about Thabo or Jerebko). That's one reason NOT to extend Hood right now - flexibility to make offers to who DL wants, whether that is an outside FA or our own players. And what if Hood is just average and Exum busts out? Or Favs plays like an all-star? Then it could be Hood you want to let walk instead of one of the others. Does anyone know what the deadline is for extending? Would be helpful if the Jazz had a month or two to assess performance.

I love Hood, but an extension could be very dangerous or a complete steal. He can't really play the 3 since he can't defend against strong SF's. He has had some health concerns and can be wildly inconsistent.
But he also could benefit huge from Rubio and tear it up from 3.
If we can get him for under 15 mil a year you gotta do it

Is he going to be extended for the Boston game?

Looked over the free agent list. Of the guys I'd want really only Parker and Aaron Gordon are potentially gettable and if Parker plays well they'd match whatever offer he got... if he can't stay on the court it'd be a big gamble. I think Gordon will get extended and may be available through trade but depends on what he shows this year... the other free agents really don't move the needle enough.

If we can get Hoods deal done at a reasonable price, 14-18 per year, then go for it. Maybe we could do a sign and trade for Parker or Gordon.

Don't be stupid. Haywood's offense improved cause Haywood improved it. All hate aside he got himself mo betta.

Y'all actin like Haywood ain't deserving a all start bid IN THE WEST is straight silly. Any team would gladly hand him the max. That is why fans are so butt hurt over this. Git over it mane.

Haywood improved, but much of his jump occurred because the Jazz put him in a much better situation. Every time Haywood would iso, it was after the Jazz ran enough rubs to give him an advantageous matchup. When they couldn't do this, Haywood would generally just launch a quick 3 or attempt a midrange fadeaway, especially at the end of quarters. At one point last year I thought that his fadeaway had regressed, but then I realized he would just go to the hole with the easier matchups that he used to take that shot on. Last year he only used the fadeaway when he was stymied from doing anything else. That was a good basketball decision.

I thought it was an ideal match and I'm not sure the "basketball genius" Brad Stevens will get any more out of Hayward than we did. His game was efficient, unforced, and seemed to match our free flowing style. I know Kyrie is saying the right things now, but honestly I think guys will revert back to what they do best... dude likes to hold the ball... dribble and go to work... he is great at it, but it limits the offensive ceiling of teams he plays on.

I will go on record right now and say I think Hayward averages less points per game this year and I think his shooting percentage may dip. Not a catastrophic fall, but not as good as last year.

Don't forget that the Celtics are expecting him to perhaps be the top defender in the starting lineup. He's a plus defender, but he ain't no anchor. If he is tasked with that responsibility it will definitely affect him on the offensive end. We won't need that from Hood.

potential Cons for Hood not signing now

- Burks being back to full health. If Burks can stay healthy he might be a better value.
- Exum starting to get it. If Exum explodes like I am hoping he is going to take minutes away
- DM breaking out and demanding that he get playing time.
- Royce O'Neal turning into a legitimate 3 and D player that needs playing time
- Continued progression of Joe Ingles
- 2018 draft is loaded with SF talent
- 2018 Free agency could be very sparse for middling talent

Didn't he fill this role for us though. I think he's up for tough defensive assignments and I think Brown and Smart are better on the perimeter than the guys we had...

Where he may struggle is not having the big safety net behind him.

I understand why he left... more attention likely more AS appearances and more endorsement money... I just think that basketball wise this place was ideal. Water under the bridge though.

Those aren't cons though... more talent producing is a problem that is easily solved... only cons are if he can't stay healthy and if he isn't consistent.

If all those things happened and Hood was healthy and playing well we could flip him for assets... problem solved.
