Exum vs Burke in first NBA games

Aggressiveness should be his focus this year. If he could gain that confidence (which I'm seeing more and more of each game) then he'll be a force next season and he'll just get better from there.

I'm not sure you can learn to be more aggressive. I think that is something that comes with maturity and experience and physical strength. Plus he needs to tighten his dribble. Aggressiveness comes with time. Look at Hayward.

I have to say that Exum has looked better than Trey did in his first 3 NBA games, and when you consider Trey was 2 years (21 months) older with all that NCAA experience, you have to feel good about Exum right now. And yes, as one poster mentioned in another thread, he already is a better defender, and I would say his game is better suited to playing PG. As you can see though, both are very young -- Burke is just turning 22, and Exum turned 19 in July. The people complaining about Burke should also factor his youth into the equation.

So... moving forward, those knee pads will get more use with Exum?

If it takes him 5 years to get aggressive that is a problem.

Let me clarify something. One thing I liked from Exum during SL was showing that he can beat his man. I just haven't seen that more than a few times in this early season. If he does that more than teams will game plan for that more and it will create better opportunities for himself and the players he's playing with.

Trey 'the placeholder' Burke's stats arent worth comparing to other players, their markedly worse than most any starting PG you can find. why cherry pick such a small sample size?

look at the full body of work. Trey's stats as a whole are unacceptable for a starter, on any team, a PG who shoots 37.9% from the field, and takes 14 shots a game is not conducive, in any way, to playing .500 ball in today's NBA.

Trey's shot selection is reminiscent of JR Smith and Brandon Jennings, tbh, (both shoot better %'s than him for career, and in their worst years).

Think of all the wild concerns and aspersions posters had cast on Exum before the draft, It speaks volumes that this thread even exists. many presumed since he played Australian Highschool kids he'd need a huge adjustment period and some suggested he'd need to ride the bench for a year or 2 like Aaron Rodgers before he'd be ready to contribute positively.

My stance is, Trey's offense is inefficient, how can Dante be much worse?! Exum's defense is good enough to play him 25 minutes, I also think Trey feels the pressure from Dante, and doesnt seem to be handling it well, (FT's?).

Exum's slow shot release was really overblown, look at the 3's that he takes, hes either wide open or hes gonna find someone a better shot.

Jabari's putting up Antoine Walker type numbers to start the season, dunno how anyone could be less than thrilled with Dante's start, **** those stats, hes drilling 3's! It was pretty clear that he can score more than he has been, but Quinn pulls him early.

I never said it would take 5 years. Let's see how hard he works how much he wants it. If the Kobe comparison is accurate then it shouldn't take long.

Remember. The NBA is a different beast then SL. I expect an adjustment period. I think he'll be fine.

I agree with everything you've said. I just want to see him take more risks this year than he has. I think he's smart enough to make quick adjustments after he makes those mistakes.

For comparison:

Trey Burke first 3 games:
52 minutes - 20 points - 8 assists - 8 rebounds - 1 steal - 3 turnovers - 36% shooting - 12.5% 3point

Dante Exum first 3 games:
47 minutes - 17 points - 4 assists - 2 rebounds - 3 steals - 4 turnovers - 54.5% shooting - 50% 3point

Didn't Burke return from a broken hand suspiciously early?

Who said they were less then thrilled. I half expected to see him get buried on the bench, but he's proven to be our best option off the bench at pg. I'm thrilled at how he has done to this point. I'm curious to see how he deals with the rookie while, and how he handles it.

I'd like to see that as well, but I'd rather see him play within himself. If he does, the aggressive play will follow little by little

Very few nba'ers come in at 19 and play with much aggression. Exum is a tall lanky, skinny kid that needs to get stronger. His aggression will come as he gets stronger, And more comfortable with the NBA game.

Let's not forget that it was not too long ago he was playing against small high school kids.

He needs to work on his handles and playmaking and comand of the NBA game before he tries to dominate the league.

I just havent seen this comment around much, but its obvious.

The Jazz got an absolute steal with the 5th pick...

I cant imagine he'd have fallen to 5, if teams thought he could shoot from 3 like hes shown.
