What's new

Exum

4yrs / $80,000,000

Barring an amazing leap in performance, there is no way the Jazz burn ~20% of their cap on Dante. Without huge jumps in cap like last year, teams will be much more prudent in spending. And I'm a huge Dante homer.

I think you may be mistaking the recent contracts when teams have money to burn, with the long-term steady state contracts once the cap stabilizes.

The Jazz will have a huge advantage here, having not signed multiyear megacontracts with mediocre players.

Exum barely belongs in the league, guys. He is only very tall for his position and somewhat athletic (as in "quick but not explosive"), but has no discernible offensive skills. Right now, he would not be a star even in the Development League. By the way, he would not be a star if he went to college either. He is still very much a long-term project. To spend 10 m/y on him is completely nuts.

A three-year deal, at 5 m/y seems more than fine IMO. If, at the end of the three-year deal, he has showed the ability to be at least a decent starter, then the FO can throw some money at him.

So confused by the X
Such a conundrum

One minute I think total scrub bust. The his age combined with flashes sucks me in with optimism and I think we might have something. Then he really sucks again.

I'm still sticking with what I always thought.
Ceiling: decent to good starter
Likely scenario: long career as a rotational player. (Kinda like DeShawn Stevenson)
Worst case. Total bust

Hard to argue with this. The FO might feel this way too - justifiably really.

Just think X will get a second contract from someone (anyone) on the hope that he can blossom. So 5 mill prob won't get it done. Something closer to 10 might though.

Conundrum, as Fish calls it....

I would go 4 years 50 million for the X man right now

Actually Exum alternates good and bad moments. I will not say that he is a bust or a future star. I think there's a lot of potential but he has to improve quickly during the interseason to deserve a contract.

2016-17......Off Rating...Def Rating.....OBPM.....DBPM.....Results for PG

Definitely not confused. His up and down play is that of a yung guy. He's consistent with being inconsistent and he looks like he's over-thinking everything at times and that the game is too fast for him.

I'm not worried about the kid until I am.
