Fainting Hillary

It won't work.

It will have a negative impact on the native wildlife.

It'll be a symbol of stupidity

It'll completely ruin the view

So if the wall would work would you want to build it?

Do you feel strongly about everything that harms wildlife?

How do you feel it's a symbol of stupidity?

This last point I cannot argue with

There was a video on YouTube a while ago with Trump speaking in about 1996, saying that if he ever runs for President he'll run as a Republican because Republicans will believe anything. . . .

Yes, he is an Actor of some skill, but I think it's a mistake to dismiss him as anything but a capable manager. If he had a good chat with Hillary and laughed at her plea to please run for Pres as a Republican or Independent like Perot did for Bill, and said he'd do it, Hillary was mistaken if she thought he wouldn't run to win.

As for charm, I think it can hardly be overstated how important his financial independence has played in this whole thing. It's the reason he could say stuff he knew would suck the Media into his game while winning a lot of cheers from the little folks as well. Americans like people who talk boldly and recklessly, if they can maintain a sort of down-home good ol boy manner about it all. And yes, they'll still love him tomorrow when he says the opposite thing just as boldly. Just being an independent man with no strings attached, that we can see, wins him a lot of support.

As I say, I don't think it's just stupid stuff he does, I think he does it on purpose, and I think he knows how to play it in a bigger picture. So down the stretch he knows how to be the most reasonable candidate just as well. He had to get that malcontent vote to break through the Republican primaries. He has to get the stable center voters to win in the general. Watch him.

He'll do it. Amazing.

But I am sure he will be a "team player" President working with establishment Dems and Reps to get stuff done. He will listen to other people and do what it takes to get their support when necessary. For stuff that people give him enough support on, he'll change the whole table.

He's not locked on an ideology. He's looking at the people in front of him, and understanding them pretty good.
I'm pretty sure the video you are referring to does not exist. If it did the Clinton campaign would have showed it to each one of us a billion times by now. There are claims he said the sorts of things you are saying in magazine articles, but so far they have all been debunked.

And, that is the beauty of it.

Surely this is clear to a lot of Washington lobbyists, perhaps those employed by concrete manufacturers, steel and wire fabricators, and union leaders. And how can our legislators or President really resist another spending program a lot of people insist on?

Such persuasions clearly direct our governance wholesale.

I could not possibly know if it was fabricated somehow, and I was not there when he said anything like that myself. Beyond that, I don't doubt he thinks that way.

If it was on YouTube like you say then it would still be there. It's not like someone is going to protect it as copyrighted material. Can you provide a link?

No, if the wall would "work" I wouldn't want to build it. I have said many times I'm in favor of immigration policy reform that would greatly speed up the immigration process and let in pretty much any law abiding person who wants to enter the U.S.. So I think a wall is a dumb way to solve what is not much of a problem in the first place. The only reason I can see for supporting a wall is because you want to keep the "brown walkers" out.

I'm certainly not super passionate about protecting wildlife, but I'm in favor of not harming ecosystems if there isn't anything significant to be gained.

It's a symbol of stupidity because walls represent division and defensiveness. As if we are afraid of what's on the other side of that wall. And walls were good fortifications about 1000 years ago, in 2016 they are easily defeated in about a dozen different ways. The Great Wall of China was a waste of resources even then. The Berlin Wall was a means to imprison people. Walls represent fear and a need for a false sense of security or just outright oppression or imprisonment. No thanks on a wall.

Cool, all legit answers IMO.

I had just never heard why people are so against building a wall (besides the fact it's expensive/maybe not possible)

I don't think a wall gets built no matter who is president.

I went to look. Found some fun stuff like David Letterman appearances and such. I think it was 1996 or 2000 or 2004 when someone like Letterman was just chattering with him, and as I recall, it appeared and sounded right for a Trumpism. He was, I think, insulting Republicans for being stupid chumps who didn't know how to solve problems or make valid decisions or judgments, probably out of disappointment. Come to think of it, it was probably something he said when the Republicans were caving and buying into Obamacare.

Trump says stuff like that. He just does. Nobody knows how much to make of it. There might have been something in the immediate context that would embarrass the Dems even more.

I'll look some more.

I bet you will not succeed in finding it. If it existed the Dems would already be playing it endlessly. If you think there is something in there that the Dems would legit be embarrassed by you're crazy. They think he is a fool and they consider anything and everything he says to be the words of a racist, sexist, or an idiot. The fact that it's no story at all tells me that there is no such video.

David Letterman had him on at least three times..... though he did directly contradict Trump a couple of times and introduced him as a badass landlord sort of dude as well. The realities of Trump, on the record over the years, pretty much show "racist", "sexist", and "idiot" to be unbalanced ravings of lunatics in themselves.

For example, he might have been disappointed with RNC RINOs joining a bad trade deal, a bad budget, or Obamacare, and saying things that have since been shown to be perfectly true and proving his sublime good judgment in dealmaking. That would be the context if he said "Republicans will believe anything". And he is damn right.

The Trump campaign has historic footage of Jesse Jackson honoring him for his employment of lots of good black craftsmen and construction workers, with Trump profusely thanking them for their good work. There are no women in Trumps past that are out there saying he was anything but a gentleman, and there's lots of footage of him praising all kinds of fine contributions women have made in his business organizations and even construction crews. He profusely honors everyone in his rhetoric of success. As for being an idiot, it's pretty clear he's as crazy as fox, but he comes out the winner regularly.

you lookin' at rhetoric on the campaign trail? He speaks to the people, he says stuff to wow them, in an edgy sort of way..... but he has fun with it and moves on. No sign he's deeply committed to any view that is offensive to anyone, and face to face with anyone he is talking with them, not lecturing them on how they should be. He just doesn't hate anyone, and he just doesn't have time to dig deep. He will apologize and reverse himself the moment he sees it go wrong.

No reason to expect campaign rhetoric to be policy in a Trump administration.

OK, I found it. But you are right about it being bogus.

But I am right about my general take on Trump, because he says so himself in some quoted material contained in this link:

https://www.factcheck.org/2015/11/bogus-meme-targets-trump/

Trump is no right wing ideologue, and his view is essentially that both parties have lost their way, and good sense dictates we fix some stuff.
