Fan Dies at Baseball Game Video

Freak accident. This makes me sick.

I'm gonna take the video link off. After thinking about it, it's probably disrespectful. Poor guy.

I'm just a tad bit disappointed in this thread. Now I'm gonna have to go google my own video.

I posted it because I read the story, youtube it, and wow at how casual it looked. The guy was with his little kid at the time too and to watch him fall to his death is just a sad story. I also feel really bad for the Hamilton guy that threw him the foul ball. He's going to have that in the back of his head for the rest of his life.

Wow it really didn't look like much. And the announcers obviously were clueless as to the extent of the guy's injuries as they kept joking about it. Very sad.

Just watched the video. Dumb move by the guy who died (obviously) and very tragic and sad too.

Another thought. I am betting the Rangers put screens or something over those openings in front of the railings. Too little too later perhaps though.

I don't know about dumb. I mean, the guy called for the ball and was probably going to give it to his son. The ball was within arms reach and I believe it was just a freak accident as he lost his balance and control of his body and went tumbling over. Honestly, it could have happened to a lot of people. He was doing nothing wrong.

It's not like he slipped on a slippery spot on the concrete and then fell over the side. He leaned way over in front of the other guy, over a guard rail (which is there for a reason). I wouldn't call it a freak accident. Accident? Yes. Avoidable accident? Of course. I would consider freak accidents more along the lines of something you can't really avoid.

If he didn't die and just broke his arm, I am sure the tune would be completely different. You'd hear more people saying "wow that was pretty dumb of him." Even though it was the exact same thing.

Chad has a point, the guy was way leaning all the way over completely blocking the other guy who had his glove out ready to catch, which caused him to lose his balance. He just made a really poor decision. But I feel bad for everyone involved for the guy who died and the people around(apparently his kid was there), last thing you expect to see at a sporting event.

If there was one person in baseball, something like this shouldn't happen to... it's Josh Hamilton.

He must have landed exactly wrong. Wasn't it something like 14 feet? I fell further than that off my roof before and just sprained my ankle and bruised my hip and one buttock. It wasn't fun, but far from life-threatening.

Man I wouldn't wish that type of guilt on anyone. Even though he shouldn't feel guilty I am sure it will be hard not to feel absolutely sick about the whole situation.

Good point though with Hamilton. He fought his demons and came out on top and then has to deal with this tragedy. At least he has some experience of how to deal with adversity.

Ya... he fell head/neck first...

Although he was communicating before lights out, so he might have been improperly moved by the medics. He probably severely damaged his vertebrae, but moving him might have slashed the spinal cord. I see a lawsuit coming at the Rangers.

Thank god the Jazz don't play baseball,

I guess I don't get your point here. Did you find my comment classless?

No, not at all... I was just saying that if something like that happened to a player in the Jazz's league... we probably wouldn't handle it very well in a playoff game.

Truth be told, I'm not sure why I quoted your post.

Unfortunately the Jazz fans have a bad rep with the Fisher incidents and throwing stuff at the Spurs players. It's too bad that a couple of idiots ruin it for the rest of the group.

Agreed that the last person this should have happened to was Hamilton. People need to realize that he is basically the franchise of that team and any fan would be honored to catch a ball that touched his glove or hand. It's bragging rights. It'd be like John Stockton throwing you a game ball. I'm sure people would go crazy for it. Imagine doing that for your son? You'd feel like the best dad in the world. The guy got over anxious and it was a tragic accident. The part that gets me is the guy was telling the paramedics, "Get my son. He's up there all alone." Very, very sad. I feel for that kid and his family.

The Rangers actually around this time of year had another guy fall from the stands. About a year and 1 day from yesterday if I'm not mistaken. Plenty of ballparks have signs saying not to lean over the railing. I could see the Rangers putting up these signs after the first accident but who knows if they did. There's been plenty of other fans in other ballparks who have fallen. This one just happened to be the worst one.

If I remember correctly I believe the first guy to fall (also a firefighter for weird coincidence sake) fell in a completely different part of the park (from an upper deck to a lower deck). He even fell further but landed on people and ended up getting injured pretty good but nothing life threatening. This guy just happened to go head first into concrete.
