Favors Equals Dwight Howard

Agreed. I think a lot of people in this thread are playing the Favors highlight reel in their head while forgetting some of his truly awful performances. Being inconsistent is often a part of being young, but there's no guarantee he'll grow out of it.

Dwight has had some awful performances, I would like to see the stats of Howards 2nd year compared to Favors 2nd year. Favors is turning into a man right before our eyes, it is pretty cool to see.

Dwight is a baby. You would think by now his offensive game would be a bit more polished as well as some kind of improvement at the free throw line. He is still a beat defensively as well as on the boards, but there comes a time when the drama surrounding him overshadows such things. Him and Van Gundy deserve each other.

Howard is definitely overrated. Absolutely no offensive game. Would've liked to see him up against Bill Russell, a guy who also had little to no offense, but was the greatest defensive player ever, bar none. He's probably a guy Howard should try to pattern himself on.

All I mean is that Favors fouls badly at times, will occasionally go into a mega-funk on offense, and on a bad night he'll both travel and commit offensive fouls at an absurd rate.

That being said, his good nights show glimpses of a VERY special player, possibly dwight-like.

I don't mean to downplay Favors as I absolutely believe he is the future, I'm just saying it's not a certainty that he figures out these issues and for all the hate DH gets for being a d-bag, he's an awfully good player.

So are you saying he could match "lazy" Dwight, or are you saying he could match "focused/best-case-scenario" Dwight?

Not willing to predict 25+ per game from Favors. That's elite territory and although he has a nice physique, hardly anyone compares with Dwight in that respect!

I do have to disagree with the idea that Howard has no offensive game. I see Favors' offensive numbers at about the same as Howard's through his career. Remember Favors' is putting up 8.7 points per game. He's doing ok with his /36 numbers but he actually hasn't averaged even 10 points for a whole season. Howard averaged 23 & 14 last year while shooting over 59% and going to the line an insane amount. Those are bigtime numbers. He's not perfect, but he's effective. I long for the day when Favors puts up 23 & 14 and dominates defensively. Favors has a chance to be special, but Howard's no slouch.

He is not a skilled offensive player at all, he is just strong as hell. He is kind of like a little Shaq, bump the defender down under the basket as far as possible and then shoot a little jump hook, or get tackled because the D is sick of getting slammed backwards and not getting an offensive foul called. Favors has the POTENTIAL to have a much more fluid skilled offensive game than Howard, will he ever average 23 ppg? Not likely, but it doesn't mean he won't be a skilled offensive player.

I love people continuing to sniff Howard's jock despite the fact that he hasn't improved in nearly five straight years and averages only around 20 points which is pathetic for a guy with his size, athleticism, conditioning and surrounding cast of shooters. The dude is severely overrated and Favors could be better. Period.

Haha. Ok.....

It slike people never even read the article or looked at the stats. All Locke did was totally back up his claims with stats that match. obviously Favors isnt there yet, IMO...But, again, based on facts (stats) he is on track and shows potential to be better even, especially on O. It isnt a jinx to admit reality, it wont make it not happen. What will make it not happen is Favors not working HARD. He seems to show he will however. At this point, no way in hell would I trade the pick and Big Al for Howard. We have Howard (light at this point) already AND a big who scores almost at will. Why go for 2 Offensive challenged bigs? People around here severely over rate Howard and under rate Big Al.

Locke has outdone himself. Extrapolating stats from Per 36 is dangerous, you could make A LOT of guys look like all stars. Howard does have the standing reach advantage and was able to retain his athleticism all the way up to 265 pounds, we're not sure if Favors will be able to or not. I do agree Favors is more offensively gifted at the same age. Might even be equal now, just doesn't have Howard's massive frame to manhandle most defenders for easy buckets.

I don't think we need Howard. He would come with a price tag, and though Favors may not be an exact clone of Dwight he does enough of what needs to be done to make us one of the teams that should be able to pass on Howard, maximizing the value we have. We have the big man situation sewed up I think.
