Favors the odd man out

Al: 0.96 points per possession

Favors: 0.9 points per possession

That represents a significant difference, even before controlling for the difference in point expectancy from their respective scoring situations. Favors isn't in the same league as Al as a scorer.

This the end of the argument. Why do we need favors to be more than a great defensive player who is not a liability on offense. He is already better than Ben Wallace on offense, and I think most of us would have loved to have someone like that with any of our bigs over the last few years. Kanter and favors will make a great pair.
The discussion the OP introduced was about cost v. impact. Favors will get paid, just like JaVale McGee and DeAndre Jordan got paid. Will Favors' inevitable payday hamstring the Jazz? Does his impact warrant a $10mm+ per year contract?

I never said he was. But the significance of their offensive difference is dwarfed by favors defensive game. What was Al's ppp when he was 21? Favors may always be a lesser talent on offense, but it's not as big of a gap as you are suggesting.

But al on defense? Favors is a superstar compared to al.

Favors has two competent finishes already tonight.

Favors with 2 nice finishes.... 1 missed midrange jumper which looked good and went in and out..... and one offensive foul that was a bad call

It's not even that I don't want Favors on this team or don't think he's worth what will inevitably be an 8 figure contract.

This is more an inquiry into if the Jazz could snt Jefferson/Sap + Favors + draft picks or some combo to get a huge upgrade at a smaller spot. Then they'd replace 60-75% of Favors' production on defense and possibly improve 150% on offense. It's a value proposition based on how free agency works.

like i said, most of us see his offensive struggles but what do you say about franklins claim that favors shoots 30 percent from midrange, 24 percent in the paint, and 48% from the field overall?
Dont you agree that he is trolling a bit and kind of just bashing favors with statements like that?

Favors is not great on offense, bad even..... so is chandler, but i think he is kinda valuable in the nba, especially if kanter, burks, hayward and the other players on the team are able to score.
Frank seems to suggest just getting rid of him cause he struggles offensively in a crappy offense that is not suited to him as a 21 year old who has never been given alot of opportunity to shine.

If you're done being a jackass about it, the numbers came from NBA.com's advances stats page. GVC already asked if the restricted area was excluded, which I acknowledged with a compliment to Favors' strengths. If you were paying attention.

Now this post makes some sense.... should have led with it.

I think you far undervalue a big that is respectable on offense and great on defense. I don't think his contribution is as easy to replace as you seem to think.

I was not really being a jackass.... I mean come on if I posted that someone shoots 24 percent from the paint, 30 percent from midrange, and 48 percent from the field (and does not take 3 pointers) then you would think it was a little strange as well right?

So yes if we could trade favors and a combination of others and draft picks for LeBron then this thread makes lots of sense....
Instead you started out the thread with "Favors is getting schooled in every facet of the game. He's even more of a liability on the offensive end as Jefferson is on D.

Corbin needs to give up on this silly offensive development experiment. It's maddening watching Favors attempt to dribble. The FO should either accept that he's a defender with little offensive upside a la Noah/Chandler/Camby or the Jazz must trade him before his value plummets.

Embarrassing PnR, can't guard the post -- another run of the mill defensive "athletic" big about to get paid way more than he's worth. No need to get DeAndre'd. Please shop him KO'Lindsey. "

Basically just trashing favors.
