Favs Reunion

Why wouldn't teams with cap space be interested? I guess I haven't looked at the cap space and free agent situation at all.

Not too many teams have money even in theory and I think a lot of people are thinking the general economy will lead to a lot of teams not wanting to push for spending, though ATL being the one with the most does seem like a good opening for Favors. NYK/DET/CHA are the others with a bunch of money. PHX could open up a little, and MIA is the last and seems likely to roll their money over to '21 through 1 year deals or something.

I suppose it depends how much more than the MLE teams are willing to offer, but I doubt it's a ton more so I think we could very well be a favorite if we're willing to offer the full.

It’s very weak and the cap will be substantially shrinking. I’m shooting from the hip but I recall it being a bleak cap landscape.

There are 7 teams total who won’t be over the salary cap. Hawks, Knicks, Pistons, Hornets Heat, Suns and Pelicans.

The Suns will only have about 15 mil in cap space if they pickup their team option on Baynes and 25 mil if they don’t. They will have even less if they keep any of Saric, Kaminsky or Okobo.

The Pelicans could have 16.8 mil but would have to renounce bird rights of Favors, Moore and Jackson as well as waive Miller.

The Heat won’t use much because they’re targeting 2021 FA.

I really don’t see any of these teams offering a ton of cash to Favors. It actually is the perfect storm for him to come back to Utah.

Add Favors and another solid rotation center like Aron Baynes.

Trade Gobert for big upgrade at PG, SF or PF.

Come playoff time, I think we would be okay rotating Favors, Bradley, and Baynes at C as long as we upgrade somewhere 1-4 using Gobert.

I like Favors and would want him back, but I’d hope a “perfect storm” could get us a key piece.

Whatever. **** it. I don’t care. Re-sign Clarkson and Favors and watch the Jazz win a championship with no spectators.

Could be right. But ATL might be the leading destination right now, for a couple of reasons.

Unless I'm misremembering the Jazz don't have Clarkson's Bird rights. Since he's played well resigning him would likely have to come out of the MLE. So I don't see a scenario where the Jazz can both get Favors and retain Clarkson. Of course, I could be misremembering.

We do have his bird rights. He signed that deal with LA and was traded to Cleveland. The question is if we want to bring in someone with the MLE who isn’t Favors.

Fantastic! Thanks, I'm not sure how I got it in my head that they didn't have Bird rights. So every good game he had I was both happy and sad (sad because I thought the Jazz were even more certainly going to lose him).
