Feeling Better About This Team

I don't think we do anything just to make Don happy. If we do keep him, it's because we want to build a competitive team around him and he wants to be here.

I think they have to be split because we don't have any assets. Bojan is a solid asset, but he's an expiring. Mike is kind of same since most teams won't want his 2nd year at that number. Clarkson isn't a strong asset.

I think Rudy is gone but I wouldn't be shocked if Mike stayed. All depends on what Mike would get us in return.
It isn't just about one guy... but it kinda becomes that. Remember all the pgs we acquired to make Gordon happy. Lebron ends up doing this everywhere too, but he is Lebron.

We will see how it all plays out.

If it really is about make DM happy, Danny is going to get us some much needed assets in return.
If it really is about championships for DM, he should be parting ways with us this summer.
As a byproduct of letting guys go away for nothing, wasting lots of assets to get our proverbial post Deron PG and bad drafting decisions, we just lack the assets needed to round this iteration of the team.
As someone else said, we were so close...
The sooner we accept it, the sooner some of you fellow posters will have a chance to cheer for a team ready to compete for it all.
I guess I will be gone for good when such a time comes around though...

I think two things have to happen to get us to contention level in the next couple years:

#1 - we make some bold moves this summer bringing in multiple good players. Hypothetically... let's say we trade Rudy for 3 good players. Yes, we lose the best player in the deal, but we receive 3 good players so we round out our team better. Guys like Royce and Joe have been playing way too much in the last few years. We are so thin on defenders. We rely on Clarkson so much for bench offense. We sign washed guys like Rudy Gay. We take a slight step back next year, but we build something different with more layers.

#2 - we do amazing work in 2023 free agency. Can Donovan lure his buddy Jaylen Brown? Could we get a couple guys like Wood, Kuzma, Gary Trent and Jerami Grant?

Oh, and Donovan has to keep improving especially with late game stuff.

Right now the best case realistic scenario is the Jazz trade Gobert to a team I will enjoy watching for the next couple of years, Utah toils in mediocrity for a year or two before realizing they need to trade Mitchell, then I can return to being a more invested Jazz fan and do the whole 'I watch college basketball" a lot thing again.

I do think there could be some irony that this year will be our best playoff run after having a poor regular season. Flip the regular season team narrative on it's head.

1% of my brain/heart is still right here... but man this year as soon as I get my hopes slightly elevated the Jazz lay a steamer on my chest... Exhibit 1 - This stupid thread.

Memphis, Portland, Toronto (nurse would get wild), Charlotte are kind of the best case scenarios I can think of meeting the criteria. Memphis might have to trade Brooks before I could really like them.

I think it's going to be Atlanta. Just makes too much sense with them stalling out this year. Jazz won't get a lot back, but they will be dumb enough to try and compete with John Collins/Clint Capela and whoever they can trade for with the Hawks picks they get.

Jazz can probably off-load Gay with Gobert in this kind of deal too. Help save Ryan some money.

I could see that as a likely scenario... I was just trying to find teams I like... not a huge fan of Trae's game.

I do wonder if they go the non-Capela route if they are looking to commit to Okongwu. Although his health history may mean they want to hedge their bets. Collins has also been on the block so I doubt that deal is out of the realm of possibility.

Sure, but lots of things would have to merge the right way for this to actually come to frution.
About Gobert I think the best time to try to move him has has just passed away... and we were so damn dumb that we have not done anything else but expose him in multiuple ways... even so, I really don't think the Gobert/Mitchell pairing will ever evolve the right way so....
About luring dudes to Utah... well... I don't think I can elaborate more that many people has already done....
About Mitchell improving in the clutch, that might be not so darn hard to do... just take the basketball out of his hands and let him be the brutal scorer he is and go from there...
