Screw Wal-Mart. This is nothing more than a publicity stunt.
Do you realize that during Katrina they could have shipped in millions of pounds of water, food, baby diapers, etc. and made a huge impact on both their name brand and the NO community that they would be held in reverence forever. Wal-Mart made a huge mistake in not taking a more active role in Katrina. They have reaped what they deserve. Wal-Mart all by itself could have mitigated Katrina. I've never understood why they didn't take on a more central role. Wal-Mart could have elevated themselves to "God-Like" level.
While FEMA flounders, Wal-Mart earns kudos for its rapid response to Hurricane Katrina. Wal-Mart is able to use its logistical prowess to organize the donation of $20 million in cash, 1,500 truckloads of free merchandise, food for 100,000 meals, as well as the promise of a job for every one of its displaced workers.
