Fill in the blank

Keyonte, Ace, Lauri, Kessler, ___________

I feel pretty confident that we have 4 starting level players on the team. Which player do you think would best fit in to this group? Try to be realistic or players that would be somewhat attainable. Draft picks are fine, but if you are going to insert a guy projected to be top 3 that's just hoping for luck.

Are these 4 players even a good combination to begin with? Is that too many off ball players? Can you build a good enough defense around Keyonte and Lauri? Is that enough shooting?

The guy I've been thinking about lately is Lu Dort. I think whoever it is needs to be an amazing on ball defender and + help defender. I think they also need to be a good connective piece and need to at least be an adequate shooter. Ideally we would have another on ball player who can break down a defense and get guys open looks, but now we are getting in to star players that aren't attainable or we would have to luck in to the draft (Peterson).

I don’t know if Key is capable of being an average defender, so he’s always going to be a liability. I actually thought Lauri turned into a better defender in his CLE stint. I think he’s been really bad on defense these past couple seasons, but he’s more capable. Maybe there’s. Time in the future where he can put more focus back into defense.

Ace is the wildcard here, but I think we can be a 5/15 off/def team with kind of starting lineup under Hardy as long as we have an elite defense guard/wing.

AJ would fit in nicely. Can create with the ball and plays defense.
PG: key
SG: Ace
SF: AJ
PF: Lauri
C: Kessler
Long, athletic, switchy lineup. That's what I want.

Pie in the Sky Draft: Peterson

Pie in the Sky Free Agent: Reaves

Realistic Draft: Cameron Carr or Caleb Wilson (though Wilson might end up being the consensus #2 guy, so maybe pie in the sky also. Hopefully if the Jazz land at 3, people buy into the AJ hype and Wilson falls to the Jazz)

Realistic Free Agent: Quentin Grimes, Andrew Wiggins, Simone Fontecchio, Ayo Donsunmu, Tari Eason

This is a good list. I like Grimes quite a bit, but not sure if he's a good enough defender for what that group needs. Tari Eason could be great though.

Maybe not next year, but the year after I think one of Dort, Wallace, or Caruso will be available. The Jazz should have their eye on that situation.

Jazz wont have cap-space then. They will have it this upcoming off-season. Grimes has been a solid defender his whole career.

Solid defender is what I think of as well with Grimes, but I think we might need something more than that next to Keyonte, like an elite guy like Dort.

If OKC knows they have to move on from one of them the following off season, they might be willing to trade them for drat picks.

Obviously elite would be nice, but it's really hard to get that guy and have him be a good offensive player.

I'm just hoping when Ace puts on muscle he will be a good defender. The Lakers really exposed that the Jazz dont have a single wing size player (outside of Cody who cant be on the court for a team trying to win due to his offense) who can guard an elite primary option.

Key is always going to get targeted unless we insert a worse defensive player into the lineup.

I would actually really love to get Wiggins the more I think about it. He's probably the best available perimeter defensive player and he has Championship experience. But I'm looking into it more now, and he has a player option worth 30 million dollars. I dont think he would get 30 million a year on the open market (could be wrong). Curious to see if he locks in a long-term deal (I think he would probably be worth around 23-25 million per year) or just takes the 30 million.

If we "hit" on Keyonte - he and Ace have plenty of the score first, alpha-dog mentality. Lauri just a perfect, highly efficient 2nd / 3rd option to complement them.

If we can get a top, top guy in this draft then hell yes you do it and let the chips fall where they may.

In terms of "fit" I kinda like Ament or Tounde. Project as super versatlie guys defensively, give you something offensively but won't need to dominate the ball, etc.

Tounde is awful.

If you fill in the blank with a guy who isn't a good ball handler (e.g. Dort, Grimes, Eason), then that puts a lot of pressure on Keyonte.

This is why a quality tank is so important this year. That blank needs to be a two-way player with handles.

Agreed, but from the draft you are basically only referring to Peterson.

I think we're going to need a superstar to really be a contender, unless Ace becomes that two way star. But in the non superstar division, I don't think it gets much better than Suggs. He has been ORL's best player when healthy this season, so he's probably in the "impossible to get" category unfortunately.

You could probably get Anthony Black and pray he learns how to shoot. ORL can't afford everyone.

For some reason I actually really like the idea of Andrew Wiggins
