You either draft Bailey for yourself or for someone else. Either way you still draft Bailey, no matter what, and be happy to be in that position.

The Jazz, nor their fans have never had a “pick the best available white guy” problem. Generally, when the Jazz draft a "white guy" he is the best player on the board.

In fact, the Jazz have generally been booed by the fans at the draft party every time they have drafted a "white guy" going back to Stockton.

Think what? That Riley is better at getting to the rim? That Riley can pass and facilitate as a wing? That Riley can move both off and on ball within the flow of the offense to get buckets? That Riley has a positive assist to turnover ratio? That Riley can actually beat his man one on one?
 
I don't have any proof (it might be a worthwhile debate), but it seems to make sense to me that one of the worst things you can do in drafting is draft someone expecting them to be a star/true #1 option who either cannot handle the load, doesn't turn out to be sufficiently efficient, or has little interest in anything but scoring.

Whether this applies to anyone in this particular draft class, I'm not informed enough to truly evaluate, but I do worry that we may be trying to force a #1 to emerge when there's no obvious #1 left. If so, I'd much rather go with someone we're confident can work as a strong #2 or 3.

Something I'd add to this is that unless it's an elite prospect, it really is a crapshoot as to who can actually be a #1. One would think it would be taking a guy who already plays like a #1, but that's not really the case. At some point in the draft it gets so unlikely that you're getting a true #1 it's not even worth considering, and that point in the draft is very early. Like it might start at #3 this year.
