I doubt it. How many players and college teams would this actually effect in the long run? It would change the recruitment strategies of Universities but it wouldn't kill the college game. Either way the NBA will do what's best to enhance their brands.

Well if you could go to the D-League or overseas for a year then go pro, or go to college for 2 years and then go pro, which route would most big name players take? I think a lot would skip college.

I think the requirement to attend college is wrong. It should be like baseball. If you're good enough and want to turn pro at 18 after HS, then you should be able to, just like any HS graduate can choose to go to college, learn a trade, or go to work for McDonalds. I also think it's unfair for NBA teams to control rights for DLeaguers and Euro "draft and stash" players for so long. Should be a couple of years at most, then if a team hasn't offered a least a 1 yr guaranteed contract to a player for the amount paid to the 30th player in his draft class, that player becomes an immediate UFA.

Almost there on those two fronts. NBA's goal is to have single affiliates for every team. DLeague is at 19 teams now. There is a DLeague draft and teams can have 4 "affiliate" players along with a couple of their own assigned players. I kind of like that system as it is. It gives guys a better chance of being called up. Would be hard for a player to be on the DLeague squad of a team that is very deep at his position. On the other hand, a player like Cotton or Millsap gets a shot when any NBA team needs depth at their position.

DLeague also needs to be better funded. That will certainly be an issue in the next CBA. The max salary in the DLeague is something like $20K (vs. $500K minimum in the NBA) and total payroll for each team is very low. That's why so may players go overseas. That has to change. Take a liitle bit out of the new TV deal. Make the max $100K for DLeaguers. Talent goes up, interest by fans goes up.
 
Haven't seen this posted. Zimmerman twisted his knee and will be out for a while. Doubtful UNLV was going to make the tourney so his year could be over. If the Jazz are sitting somewhere in the 15-18 range, would you give him a first round promise to ensure he declares for the draft?

In order to take money out of the TV deal to cover D-League costs, the NBPA has to agree. What do you think they'll say?
I also have to say living in Europe, I like the diversity in player heritage in our leagues over here. I don't think it's a bad experience for the players as well to travel the globe for a decade.

Making D-League players big time earners is only a good solution IMO if you try to keep talents out of colleges and try to take over their sponsorship deals over time. That obviously also depends on fan interest shifting over to the D-League teams once you manage to lure the future star potential talents to the D-League.
There's probably pros and cons for trying to do that.

the Mulder situation is a bit of a head-scratcher to me at this point, looking around college ball there's so many successful x-fer stories going on, I can't help but wonder if they over-evaluated him??

I like Izac, but he's not in game shape yet (hence the "to this point" comment).
Yes, we've been VERY spoiled.
Wynyard is just very raw. He could come in now and give us boards, but he's just learning sets and is far behind. Players and coaches love him. Great personality and I think he'll play next year and be very good in two.

Mulder is simply not hitting shots in practice and his defense has been embarrassing. He's a very good athlete so I'm not sure if it's lack of desire or just the game moves too fast for him right now... I expect the latter. I think the lights are brighter than he expected in Lexington.

As far as recruiting, UK did have, by all services, a top 3 class (some said #1). Things would be entirely different if Skal was playing like we all thought he would. Completely different team then. Can you imagine the field day our guards would have if they had 50% of an Anthony Davis playing down low? Right now he's just very weak (physically and mentally), VERY foul prone, and gets stripped almost every possession (it seems).

Srsly, though, how much different is this team with Skal playing like a #1 draft pick. Nearly unbeatable.
 
Bentil and Ellenson in a fun OT matchup tonight. Bentil with 33 and Ellenson with 24 and 15 at the time of this post. Marquette's guards are stupid though - it's as if they are playing keep away from HE sometimes.

To those hoping they trade assets for a George Hill, Mike Conley or Jeff Teague. I'd suggust checking this video out he's 2-3" taller than all of those guards, can play SG/off the ball easily -- He's the guard they should spend assets to trade up for... Murray's 17 months younger than Exum..

Dude is a certified flamethrower, which means a 6th man 'microwave' type thats so talented he should be on the floor as much as possible, kinda like Prime Gilbert Arenas.
