Following 2016 potential draftees

thought experiment:

Which teams could be interested in Thon Maker?
Teams that are patient and have a set and successful roster and are willing to develop a talent on a 12th roster spot for the beginning and willing to see if he can move up.

The next step assumes that he is indeed talented and just needs time to get "in sync" with his body and develop a skillset that can exploit his body's advantages.
Now a lot of FOs are smart. They know by now that very rarely being an older rookie directly translates to immediate impact. Most of the time they still need a year to get acclimated to travel schedules, workload, level of competition etc.
So who's really interested in a 19 year old project that may take a lot of time.

So I take a look at tankathon and will try to identify some teams that have a good shot at the title(Or at least in case the real contenders suffer injuries), but may have noticed how the Spurs took Leonard and developed him into a star who will most likely extend the Spurs contention window.
They had him ready once the other stars got old and used the success, promise, organization's reputation to lure another star at the end of his prime. Depending on who else they can develop on their roster and how long they can keep winning, they could find 'anotha one' either in free agency or via the draft. Teams will try to copy that IMO.

Boston and Toronto are the only playoff teams who managed to get their hands on a lottery pick and I'm pretty sure that neither is interested in him. Boston's pick is too high and ujiri already has his "bball w/o borders" project with Bruno Caboclo. If he getts another one of those and neither panned out things could become frosty real quick for him.
If he picks at 9, he'll most likely select someone else. Ellenson's skillset fitts the roster and Dwayne Casey. His upside and potential makes
him intriguing.

Indiana's strong scouting at 21 is unlikely as well, since the Pacers owner is VERY old and who knows how many years Larry Bird wants to continue the job with his body. They got Paul George for 3 more years and unless they wanna start from scratch around Myles Turner and just get rid of everybody for picks(as i said unlikely from a management position unless owner wants to sell) I don't see them taking the risk of getting the next Giannis with a 10% chance.

Further down we got the Hawks at 23. But Bud being GM+Coach makes it rather unlikely IMO, even though they could take a flyer on a project.

From 24 onwards, I could see everybody but the Clippers use a pick on him as a high risk/high reward move. And there's a Philly and a Suns pick in that selection.

Kentucky's Skal Labissiere has declared for the 2016 NBA Draft and plans to sign with an agent. Probably a smart move.

Skal hired an agent, so this does not apply to him, but I am currious to see how the new process works for players declaring but not hiring an agent with an option to return to NCAA.

Villanova is probably going to be the first team on the past 30 years to win the National Championship without a single first-round pick on the roster.

I love Ryan Arciadicono though, would like to see him get an invite to play on someone's summer league team.

Hated to see NC lose, but at least it was to a team like Villanova. I think the Villanova players would be wise to forego the NBA this year. Obviously a true team championship.

Yeah, hope he enjoys Sioux Falls, Grand Rapids, and Erie. Of course will all the big guys KY has coming in no guarantee he would play much next season either.

Duke the year they beat Hayward. Their best player was Singler, he wasn't first round, right.

Singler was the 33rd pick but that team had Mason and Miles Plumlee, both 1st round picks.

It remains to be seen if Jalen Brunson is or isn't a 1st round pick too, that's no foregone conclusion.
Ahhh, I thought he meant drafted that year. Didn't the Plumlees declare the year after?

With the Arch gone his role should pick up. I am not sure anyone has him as a first rounder right now or next year either.

Nolan Smith went 21st to the Blazers the year after as well. I should have specified because it is kind of a broad statement. Still though Villanova doesn't have a first-rounder on their team. Whether or not Hart stays or goes he is gonna be a second-round pick.

Kind of impossible to say.

Chad Ford came out with his latest big board today. The first one after the tournament and there is a lot of movement. Here are some notable ones:

#4 - Jamal Murray

#8 - Marquese Chriss

#9 - Jaylen Brown

#14 - Denzel Valentine

#15 - Domantas Sabonis

#16 - Skal Labissiere

#17 - Tyler Ulis

#19 - Timothe Luwawu

#20 - Thon Maker

#21 - Dejounte Murray

#24 - Demetrius Jackson

It's insider so if you guys want to know where someone is or what he said about them just let me know.

Props to PG_AB, he was already talking up Chriss and D. Murray before they rose. Jackson has fallen through and I think he was pretty high on him as well.
