Following potential 2012 draftees

There's nothing to worry about with any of their athleticism. Gillie is the most explosive, but all have enough to reach superstar level, imo.
Here are my main concerns for each;
Gillie - Perimeter shot
Barnes - Soft
Miller - Lazy/entitlement

Miller may have the greatest upside, though I think he'll never reach it.
Barnes lacks the killer instinct to be a #1 option .. though he can certainly be a second option.. which is just fine.
Gillie will reach his potential, even over succeed, but to reach superstar, he has to fix his perimeter shot.

Just my opinion.. I'm no expert at anything, just watch a LOT of basketball and been watching these kids for three years already.

Hope you're right, cause I really want to see these guys succeed.

I'd also put down ball handling as a major concern for Barnes...he went to the CP3 guard camp again this summer, so hopefully that helped enough.

What is funny with all this talk at SF no seems to mention t. jones. The guy could have the best year of all of them. What is his potential? He might be the most versital of them all. Don't get me wrong barnes would be awesome on the jazz and would fit the team make up very well. Gillie seems to be the defensive specialist the jazz could really use. Miller don't know a lot about him.

Then throw out there perry jones and my mind is going nuts.

Terrence should definitely be in this conversation, but Perry really does seem to be more of a PF. For now anyway, but who knows...problem is, he doesn't seem to know either.

The main person being left out of the SF discussion is James McAdoo. Of all the supposed "tweeners" he's the one I can't seem to quite figure out. In terms of position, I mean. I think he'll be great no matter what, but I'm pretty torn on whether I see him as a SF or PF...but maybe I just haven't seen him play enough.

I've said quite a bit about Jones. He's a first team all-american and will surprise people this year .. a LOT. Jones, Gillie, Barnes, Miller, SF's .. Beal, Rivers, SG's .. Teague, Kabongo, Marshall (not so much, imo), PG's.

Agree spycam, but I see McAdoo as a DEFINITE power forward. Certainly a case could be made for SF, but it would be littered with holes and pretty weak.

Unless Jones can improve his 3pt %, I think he is a 4. I think it's important we add another long range shooter, which is why I want Barnes and why I kind of want to avoid Gilchrist and Jones.

+1'd you spycam.

Sweet thanks. Expect some rep from me in the near future, seeing as how I agree with like 90% of what you say lol.

So what makes you see McAdoo as a definite PF? I can see him being a very good pick and roll player, but he doesn't seem to have too many post moves. Again, I've probably seen less of him than any of the other likely top 10 pick, but from what I've seen, he always just seems to cut to the basket...not a whole lot of isolation stuff down low ala Sullinger/Kanter.

I don't disagree .. but Barnes shot 35% last year. Jones 33%, though he drastically outperformed Barnes in every other category. Gilchrist shot 40% and outperformed Barnes in every other statistical category. It's like the Rivers lovers .. love his shooting, though he shot 35%, not exciting.

If you're going for shooting, go for Beal. Going for EVERYTHING, go for Gillie. I still say Barnes, but I think at the end of this year, that could easily change.

I wasn't aware Gilchrist has played a full college season to compare to Barnes freshman season.

It's just that his current skill set is more post-related. He can handle the ball, pass it, but just seems to lack the shot and athleticism to effectively play the 3. He's a tweener, for certain. He is another one to watch this year and see how he does and try to anticipate next-level transition.

Works both ways. Barnes will also have a 2nd year of college to compare against Gilchrist's first. Having said that, Barnes has never been overly effective from 3. I DO, however, anticipate him lighting it up this year.

Without a doubt. Another reason I'm on the Beal bandwagon. Although, a SF would definitely fit our needs better. But hey, there's no reason I can't hope for Beal AND one of the elite SF's heh

Barnes release, offensive fundamentals, and offensive versatility is about x1,000,000

In this draft, this is exactly what you want .. I would LOVE to have one of;

Beal or Rivers (prefer Beal, by far)
One of the SF's we've been discussing

Now, if one of the PG's start to stand out, that changes things ..

Yup. Hopefully Teague pulls it all together, cause he really does have a lot of potential. And it's no secret that Cal has done an amazing job at getting his PG's ready for the NBA, so Teague could be a real possibility.

Fail.

Barnes release is x1,000,000
Offensive fundamentals are laughable compared to Gillie
Offensive versatility? You're showing your lack.

Barnes can score from anywhere on the court, in any way. Fundamentally he is about as solid as it gets. If Tim Duncan was a wing player, he would be Harrison Barnes.

The one thing I've seen that I didn't expect is how strong and physical Teague is .. he is literally hurting the guys he's defending.

That's good to hear. If he can fully utilize his athleticism on the defensive end, he could be scary.
