Following potential 2012 draftees

NBA ready from Day 1? What?

I don't understand the love for Darius Miller and his extreme mediocrity throughout his 4 years at UK. I like him as a 2nd round pick, but I wouldn't use a 1st on him when there are about 4 FA we can sign who do exactly the same thing he does.

According to DX Best Case: Danny Green. The placeholder for Manu.

1.) Yes. I think Miller will get minutes immediately on whichever team drafts him. His skill set (very good shooter, solid defender/ballhandler, very polished player) fits in any system. He's very developed physically and is a smart, cerebral player.

2.) His status as a 6th man and 10-12 ppg stats do not equal mediocrity. He played with the best collection talent in the NCAA over the last four seasons and was never the first or second option on those Kentucky teams.

3.) He is being discussed as an early second round pick. I think most everyone would agree that a serviceable, 7th/8th player (a la Danny Green, thank you DX) would be a great value as an early second rounder.

We're not discussing him as a savior here. Until we make a move for an early-to-mid first round pick, a move up to 30-40 seems like a more likely possibility.

He is being discussed on the board as taking him in the 1st round. In the 2nd I don't really care, I just don't want him in the 1st.

Sorry this is off topic from the Miller debate, but here are a couple of draft related items I found interesting.

Golden State or this guy who covers them has lots of options and no plan for the 7th pick: https://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawak...at-7-jones-jones-drummond-zeller-pg-or-trade/

That’s why the Warriors will want to see (Terrence)Jones in workouts with the true SFs–Perry Jones III and Barnes in particular–and if TJones can run and shoot with them, I’d think it’s likely the GSWs will select him.

and the Phoenix Suns are telling the media they want perimeter players
Suns GM Lance Blanks talks NBA Draft needs, says team will target perimeter players https://dlvr.it/1gbmym #PBT #NBA

“I can tell you that it’s likely we’ll have our pick and keep it,” Blanks (Phx GM) said. “Unless there is something unforeseen that I can’t see.

So naturally they will draft Terrence Jones, Zeller, Meyers Leonard or Arnett Moultrie. For me, looking at the Suns position, I am less impressed with the Jazz playoff 'run'.

You'd take him at 35, but not at 30?

Frankly, I'd rather him at 30. That way he's locked into a relatively low-$ guaranteed deal for a few seasons. Whereas if he has a good rookie season as a 2nd round pick, we'd be forced into paying him more $ starting year 2. Hello Wes Matthews.

Better defender? At this point I would say yes.

Better rebounder? Undecided. Davis, Jones and MKG hogged all the rebounds.

Better Hustle? Yes to Caroll

With that being said, Miller has a higher ceiling and his ability to shoot outweighs the things that Carroll has over him. I would guess that within a years time that we will all see that Miller is the clear favorite to get more playing time.

On a side note, Miller's willingness to take whatever role was asked of him is a skill. It take some mental strength and discipline to do whatever is asked of you while not ruining the locker room. I know that you used this as a negative but I see this as a huge positive. If Millsap had this mentality then the Jazz would be sitting pretty next year and this logjam at the 4/5 position would not be as big a concern as it is right now.

You're spot on with Millsap. To be fair, Millsap hasn't been that outspoken against a sixth-man role. However, at least for next year, I think we all recognize that we're better off with Paul coming off the bench. Him as the 6th man makes the logjam substantially simpler.

Jeff Taylor, John Jenkins, Tony Wroten, and DLamb are guys that are in his neighborhood. That means I can see DMiller going as high as 25.

Millsap is in my starting lineup and it isn't even close.

TRADE AL.

I agree with you about this as well. If we cannot get rid of Jefferson then Millsap needs to be coming off the bench. Favors has come out publicly and said that he is not a 5, he is a 4. Millsap is not the player that Favors is and it is not even close.

If it's my team, and we can't trade Jefferson, then it's Al that comes off the bench. If I weren't busy/lazy, then I'd build a clear case demonstrating why this should be the outcome.

TRADE AL
