Following potential 2012 draftees

What muddles this all up is millsap. With millsap playing the 3 with favors and Jefferson I don't see as much need now to draft a scorer like Barnes. As a back up to play along side burks who is a natural scorer I feel the value of miller at 29 (bentleys number) is far superior to Barnes at 8.

Then Marshall would fill the only other need that we have.

Miller = Matthews in this draft.

Pretty much how I feel as well .. top to bottom.

I dunno.....with the Big 3 lineup, outside shooting is weak and then weaker with Marshall.

Yup. I want guys to spread the floor, and I'm sorry, but Millsap just doesn't do that. When was the last time he even attempted a three? I'd much rather have a pure SF, then just stand pat with Millsap there.

I think we've seen that Millsap can hit three's, he just doesn't shoot them that much.

Yeah, and I want someone who has the confidence to take them consistently. Don't get me wrong, I love Millsap and the SF thing has worked well, but do we really want that to be the long term answer?

I like Millsap. I thought they'd have to trade him but now I think he can be good at the 3. Even dominant there.

His stats were identical to his freshman year. What was it that you liked more about him this year?

He's not without his flaws. Everyone's apprehensive about PJ3's tendency to play the game in 2nd gear. I agree this is a knock on him. But his talent just seems effortless. It's a thing of beauty. Favors has also had the question about his motor but when Favors shows what he can do the talent is undeniable. I'm not saying PJ3 is the go-to-stud the Jazz need, but at pick 8 I don't think anyone is. And at pick 8 PJ3 has perhaps the highest ceiling. Even if he doesn't reach his ceiling his floor is pretty decent - similar to others at 8, so gamble on him scratching his ceiling.

Also, I think he can play the 3. But I also think Millsap can play the 3.

I've said it before but I'll say it again. For every negative Millsap has at the 3 he also has some nice positives. The same could be said of PJ3. Although, Millsap has an awesome motor. But PJ3 is really tall. Positives and negatives all around.

If we're drafting him to play the 3 - he better be able to shoot both mid range shots as well as 3pt in our offense. Agree?

Sure. I think you can justify the gamble he gets consistent there. It's an option.
Although, as mentioned a little while ago, I'm thinking you might wanna acquire a late first to grab Darius Miller and then use the lottery pick on Marshall. That's another option.

How about trading our #8 to Charlotte for their 2nd rounder in '12 and their first rounder in '13?

They could pick up Davis and another stud at #8. We could pick up DMiller and give us another year to evaluate our roster and know what we need to pick up in the lottery next year.

Barnes was the top option as a Sophomore, Miller was the 6th man as a Senior on one of the most talented teams ever. Thats the difference. Barnes has the potential to be a top option on a team. Miller will most likely be a very reliable role player. Barnes is clearly the player with more talent and upside. Miller, however, would fit in with what the Jazz have now very well. Jazz probably won't have the option to even pick Barnes. If the Jazz don't get GS pick and find a way into the bottom of the first, Miller would be a great alternative. If the Jazz do have the GS pick and Barnes is available, you take him though (Marshall being the only alternative).

As for Perry Jones, having Jones, Evans, Milsap, Jefferson, Kanter and Favors at the 3,4, and 5... That would be awesome size. They would just need to get out on the 3, and find a way to make some on offense...
