Following potential 2012 draftees

How about trading our #8 to Charlotte for their 2nd rounder in '12 and their first rounder in '13?

They could pick up Davis and another stud at #8. We could pick up DMiller and give us another year to evaluate our roster and know what we need to pick up in the lottery next year.

Do you think Miller will last to the second round?
Also, I think they gotta sweeten it a bit. It's a #8 pick in a draft that is widely considered strong.

I don't know where he'll go. I would say 28 - 34 ..

The reason I thought it works for us is the bobs will likely suck bad next year and a top 4 pick in that draft is just as good as the 8 (maybe better) in this one.
One misconception regarding next year's class is that it's got no talent. That is far from true. The lottery is strong, it's just not deep and nose-dives after that.

Barnes was the top option as a Sophomore, Miller was the 6th man as a Senior on one of the most talented teams ever. Thats the difference. Barnes has the potential to be a top option on a team. Miller will most likely be a very reliable role player. Barnes is clearly the player with more talent and upside. Miller, however, would fit in with what the Jazz have now very well. Jazz probably won't have the option to even pick Barnes. If the Jazz don't get GS pick and find a way into the bottom of the first, Miller would be a great alternative. If the Jazz do have the GS pick and Barnes is available, you take him though (Marshall being the only alternative).

As for Perry Jones, having Jones, Evans, Milsap, Jefferson, Kanter and Favors at the 3,4, and 5... That would be awesome size. They would just need to get out on the 3, and find a way to make some on offense...

yeah, I think everybody would prefer Barnes to Darius Miller. But since the lottery pick can only be used on one of either Marshall or Barnes, I'm looking at who can be had for something relatively cheap like a late first/early second, ie: Miller.

Otherwise, you grab Barnes (if he's there at 8) and can you find a PG you like later on in the draft?
I guess you wouldn't need to try and acquire a late first and just use the Jazz' second rounder on Scott Machado.

You know more than I do. I do think Charlotte will suck perpetually so that should help the strength of the pick. Still I'd play the angle that it's a "weak" draft and see what I could squeeze out of 'em.

Maybe. I'd be worried that Chicago would grab him with the last pick in the first. Or San Antonio will pull something. I dunno.

I came to overlook his slowness and gathered a fondness for his pure PG play (passing, running the team, and bbIQ). He just seems to have a Nash/Stockton like quality. Could also bust because the length of the NBA, sagging off him and clogging passing lanes, takes away his best qualities .. but I'm thinking he'll get it done .. but he's slow, damnit. I dunno, either.

Has to be Barnes. In the half court, you dump the ball into Big Al, Millsap, Favors, I don't see how you can greatly improve the way you do that. Our bread and butter play is Harris dribble up, Hayward comes off the curl receives the ball and dump it into the post. It's not even the PG who does that.

On the other hand with Barnes & Hayward in the wings - we're locked in for the next 5 years! Barnes' 3pt shooting will spread the floor for our bigs big time. Double Al/Millsap/Favors and he shoots a 3pt. You don't double Al et al, and it's a free 2pt.

How good of a defender is he? Would he automatically guard the best wing player, or just good enough to not get owned by average players? Also, is he a better shooter, or did he have a better percentage because of shot selection (I personally think there is a difference).

No, he got playing time. There are two reasons, imo. First, he's a senior .. Second, he doesn't have the assassin mentality. He defers to his teammates more than Barnes. This makes Barnes more valuable because you want your good shooters .. well .. shooting the ball. In the last 20 games of the season, DMIller shot almost 10% better from 3 than Barnes, but he's still too passive on defense. NOT lazy, just less confident/too unselfish.
