Following potential 2014 draftees

How can you play SF if you can't shoot and only want the ball in the post?

I posted this late last year. Watch it if you've got time. I do believe he's better in transition, and in space, creating for his teammates and scoring off the dribble. I don't think he'll be as effective beating his man in the post in the NBA.

To me he's really dangerous, top of the key, holding the ball. He can pass it. He can dribble, draw 2 defenders and dish it. He also has enough quickness to take it to the hole and finish, or draw the foul.

More evidence of Randle's SF skills on show in last night's game:

- 0.39min: outlet pass to start a fast break, give & go & scores
- 0.51min: assist to 3pt shooter on the perimeter
- 1.09min: starting from the 3pt line, drives baseline and finished with AUTHORITY!!!
- 1.33min: a running outlet pass to start a fast break - leading to a quick/easy basket
- 1.53min: touch pass in the paint
- 2.19min: received a pass at the 3pt line, dribble/drive to the hoop, draws foul and scores
- 2.53min: handles the ball in open court, drives to the painted area - quick pass out to 3pt shooter
- 3.02min: Again, starting at the 3pt line, dribble/drive to the hoop - this time quick pass to the man in the paint who scores

Look at this video below for Randle's SF skills. He likes to handle the ball in transition, in the open court. He likes to create for himself and his teammates, and to me he is most dangerous holding the ball top of the key and making plays:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqhuK___3PA

- 0.09min, right elbow, spin move into the lane, pass out to a wide open 3pt shooter

- 0.22min, knocks down open 3pt top of the circle

- 0.29min, top of the 3pt line, drive, spin into the lane, kicks out to the corder for a wide open 3pt shot

- 0.56min, started again, top of the 3pt line, hesitation dribble into the paint, easy lay in

- 1.41min, receives the ball top of the 3pt line, quick dribble and pull up jumper top of the key

- 2.24min, receives the ball in transition, top of 3pt line, dribbled down the lane and slams it

- 2.45min, dribbles in transition into the painted area, quick dish out to the shooter who took a quick dribble and scores

Keep in mind this is only off of highlights of just 1 game.

I've watched a lot of Randle this year, I really don't think he can play SF. If you draft him, prepare to move Kanter. That's fine, I don't even necessarily disagree with it, just understand it's coming.

I like Randle too. Think he will be terrific.
Especially after the reports with him and his mom.
Seems like a good character guy.
Just wondering how he gets time with Favors, Kanter, Gobert, etc.

I take the best guy and worry about minutes later. That kind of stuff should take care of itself.

kkk and I agree on Randle, but we disagree on position. I agree with you that he's a PF all the way. But again, whether he's a SF or a PF, if he's the best guy, you just take him and worry PT later.

Right now the Jazz are tied with Boston at the 4th spot with Boston having two games with Philly. I think the Jazz have to drop a few spots to be in the Gordon drafting position. The Jazz will still have a legitimate shot at Embiid if they are in the top 3 and maybe 4. No one knows that much about Exum so if he comes in and blows people away then he could be a top 3 guys. A few GMs already have him there.

I'm honestly excited to see how the rest of the tourney plays out. If Kentucky wins a chip and as a consequence some GM is willing to overlook Randle's glaring weaknesses and trust that he'll develop all those skills from scratch. And accept he'll never play adequate defense. If he can surpass Embiid, Parker and Exum?
Who plays the wildcard Exum as you guys look at it.
What happens with Embiid's back and ankle?

If the Lakers miss out of Wiggins, Parker, and Embiid they will take Exum. I guarantee it, so that means they will have to get the #4 pick or lower.

Jazz end up with the #5 pick.

Wiggins, Parker, Embiid, and Randle are all gone.

This is essentially worse case scenario, but who do we take?

Exum? Gordon? Smart?
