Following potential 2014 draftees

Josh Huestis moved into the 2nd round of DX's update yesterday

3 and D potential, hopefully the jazz work him out. Josh caused all sorts of issues for Wiggins(1-6, 4points, 4 turnovers) in the tournament

With Burks not being a real good shooter, and Hayward's being inconsistent, and Burke shooting less then 40%... Smart seems like a bad fit in Utah. Seems we need to draft shooters at the wings.

Smart is the last guy of the top 6 -8 players that I want on the Jazz. Wiggins, Parker, Embiid, Exum, Noah V., Randle, Gordon before Smart.

I genuinely want Exum considered, league wide, to be in the mix with the Wiggins/Parker/Embiid group as far as potential franchise cornerstones when the dust settles. That obviously good for us, especially if we pick top 4.

That said, I'm looking over a lot of film from him lately and some of it is convincing me he will be very good and some has me thinking he will be less than great. My biggest concern is, IMO, he isn't an elite athlete.

Now walk with me, Exum lover, and realize I'm not trying to player hate, just trying to talk myself through this in the early stages.

Positives:
-first step
-ability to breakdown a defender, one on one, and collapse a defense (this is obviously huge)
-Length/size
-Passing (seems to find the best shot on the floor)
-defensive upside because of said length

Negatives:
-not elite athletically
-not considered a shooter at this point
-a good deal of unknown or lesser than competition (yes, and some very good)
-looks to play out of control at times

I think come combine and individual workout time we will hear a lot more about how he currently looks and how much he's grown just in working out with Kobe's trainer. That said, if I'm his agent, I very much limit anything athletically at the combine and am pretty strict on individual workout parameters. His stock is very high right now and he has more to lose than gain.

Again, I truly hope he creates a "big 4".

Good point..... i never really looked at it like that.

I agree.
I dont want smart with our pick.
If we could trade the gs pick and a future first for him then i would be ok with picking him...... but not with our first pick this year

Having been the first to mention Exum on this board and know people I trust that have watched him in person many times, I firmly believe it's big4.

He is quick.. so athleticism isn't overly important to me. Don't need highlight reel dunks, but do need some explosiveness, which he absolutely has.. and I'm also not convinced he isn't a very good athlete. I'd be very happy with Exum at #4.

I just like the line-ups we could have with Exum.

We could go:

Burke
Exum
Hayward
Favors
Kanter

or

Exum
Burks
Hayward
Favors
Kanter

Both lineups would leave either Burks or Burke as our 6th man, which is a role I feel that both could employ quite well. First lineup has better shooting, but the defensive potential in the backcourt for that 2nd unit would be pretty cool, lots of length.

Out of the top 3-4, I feel like Wiggins, Embiid and Exum have actually shown they can play a little defense, while Parker just can't…and yes, that does worry me.

Agree and actually meant to mention that in my previous post. Good on ya.

Is Gordon going to be 50% ft shooter in the nba? If so I don't want him. What good is he to us if teams just employ a hack a Shaq on him in crunch time. Plus as an explosive athlete like Gordon, he should be very good at getting to the ft line. Does this concern anyone else?

Of course it concerns us.

if he was a better free throw shooter and shooter in general then he would be the number one pick imo

Draft myths

Dunking a NBA draft myth: "There are a surprisingly high number of draft picks go to teams outside the bottom 3 teams."

Facts: Under the current draft system, there have been 60 top-3 picks, 32 have gone to the bottom three teams, versus statistically predicted value of 33

I like exum MUCH better at the one than the two.
Burks gets bullied by shooting guards in the league and he has decent size.

D wade, harden, wes matthews, hell even finesse guys like klay thompson would push exum around and post him up and punish him all day on the defensive end.
He wieghs 185 right?

I do like him at the point guard alot though. I have always wanted to have a big long point guard with big strides and a great first step.
I think if the jazz draft exum and he is as good as his hype says he is, then we should start taking offers for trey
