Following potential 2014 draftees

Listening to anyone talk about HS prospects is mostly boring.

"Hey look at how amazing this guy is in this mixtape that only shows highlights"
"Yeah, he can play SF with those handles"
"Oh look he can hit 3's"

Yawn. Wake me up when college basketball starts and we can actually see these guy's flaws and in a league where they have competition.

you'll never get to, say, 87 rep power as long as you hold these beliefs. That's where the Chedd$r zat.

there are things you can see in highlight videos. I noticed that Gordon is a willing passer. he understood where players would be. his passes are ugly, although to the right person but not in a good spot. his shot needs to be reworked a little. the release point changed a few times, nothing that can't be fixed with more practice.

the thing I noticed the most is he enjoys playing the game and he has a high motor.

I also noticed that some of his post foot work was a little mechanical. again things that can be fixed.

you don't have to watch the vids for the highlights but the mechanics of what is happening.

What I liked from watching the McDonalds game and this highlight vid is that he seems to have real good BBIQ. Wonder how that's gonna affect his learning curve.
People say you can't teach court vision and him having that already is going to be valuable for at least 2 cases down the road.
-transition basketball(everybody is going to expect him to dunk on every single occasion)
-he becomes an all star type player who is commanding double teams

I notice he is playing against scrubs and he can mess around and lead a fastbreak and make cute passes.

Can he do that at the college level? Maybe, probably. Can he do it at an efficient level that the coaches will embrace? Remains to be seen. I would respect highlight vids more if they show him committing TO's on those attempts.

Fair enough point. But I guess a player analysis on high profile HS matchups woudn't be gaining the same amount of hits like highlighting that he can dunk over the 5'10" guy.
Is there even advanced data on HS players publicly available?

No data available publicly that I am aware. It's normally difficult to find any stats at all, even basic.

However, NBA scouts compile their own analytics and pay people to collect data by watching tape on the top players.

Gonna try and read most of this thread sometime in the near future. Falling behind with this year's draft prospects.

I really like Dante-- but thats about it. I would imagine that the last piece of the puzzle for this team will be elucidated after the end of this season. If Favors, and Kanter show zero potential to carry a team's offense, then it'll let us know that we might have to address a need for reliable, consistent scoring for the upcoming draft.

If our starters are great, but our bench is ****, then maybe we should look for either a great 3rd pig, or a 3rd playmaker a la James Harden with OKC, Jarret Jack with GSW (lofty goals, but you gotta set em high).

If OG is right, and Burke becomes the next Sebastian Telfair (vomit), then we definitely need to look into a point guard.

We are in an awesome situation this year. Looking forward to closely following the progress of both our players, and college players in general. It's exciting how bought to gauge it is where this team will be a year from now.

Good post, dal.

I agree. We are in a very good position. Not only is this draft deep and talented, but we'll be able to draft very nice picks at a position of need.. if need be. Most all positions are represented fairly evenly.

I think the draft lacks quality at Center and depth at point guard. Other positions, especially SG are uniquely deep and talented. Wouldn't be surprised if 6 years from now 3 of the top 5 SG in the league are '14 draftees.

I always thought due to the one and done rule they would limit themselves to populating college games and let the colleges do the work to scout high schoolers.
