What's new

Following potential 2014 draftees

It was okay. I watched the game. He did what he's supposed to do as the #1 pick, but nothing awesome.

He will though. Just watch.

Crazy that 26 points on 15 FGA with 11 rebounds and 2 blocks isn't anywhere near what he's capable of.

He has elite defender written all over him.. he's not there, but it's easily seen. Athlete, shooter, IQ, length, handles.. decent vision. Really good player.

What's Young all bring to the table? Solid shooter from range and looks to be adequate rebounding. Other than that I'm not too familiar with him. Can he be one of those elite perimeter defenders like George?

I know you guys gonna hate me, but he's basically a younger version of Andre Iguodala with a better jumper and maybe athleticism closer in the Carter region. But he's the same measurements, freakishly long arms, willing to defend, good distributing skills, above average rebounding. Is most dangerous in the early offense.

James Young reminds me of Nick Young.

tbh.

We talkin' bout defense?

Just opened an email from a VERY respected scout from yesterday (he's a scout for Pacers). He said, emphatically..

1) Wiggins
2) Embiid
3) Parker
4) Exum
5) Randle
6) Vonleh
7) Smart
8) Gordon
9) Young
10) WCS
*as far as he went*

was surprised by a few thing... to say the least.

(this guy has been a dead-on source for 15 years)

Give the Pacers' draft success that dude could be doing something right. I'm surprised about the Embiid hype. He looked so raw yesterday again. But maybe it's just that I don't trust big men who first play basketball at age 16.
Vonleh at 6 is a little too high. I'd take Gordon over him. Also Smart.

-athleticism.. too under the rim. Interesting because much of his hype out of HS was elite athleticism. Nope.

Honestly he seems a good kid and a relentless worker. He'll find a way. There's so many below the basket PFs in the league. They all find a way. Kevin Love is under the basket as well when he's not making it rain. LaMarcus Aldridge above the rim? Good joke. Basically it's Blake Griffin above the rim and that's about it. And the more I think about it is that playing above the rim as PF is mostly a sign that a player has athleticism but no skill and you simply remember the dunks because all he can do is cut, trail or rebound to get a dunk.

A 15 min breakfast appetizer. Heard yo kids have to prepare their lunch for school themselves today.

Oh and I wanna add: The next person, who questions Wiggins drive, passion, killer instinct or hunger is getting a neg rep from me.
If he did what he did in the second half for a whole game and it would net them a win we'd already have the breakout performance that PKM wrongfully predicted to be yesterday.

anyone being real knows I give the non-homer breakdown... as does hantlers with puke.

I warned against Knight. Was disgusted with MKG at #2. And am concerned with Randle at #3.

(at this point I may move Randle down from 3 to 5 and move Exum and Embiid ahead of him... Smart I'm still not sold on in top 5.

I am with you on this analysis.

My top 5 are Wiggins, Parker, Embiid, Exum and Randle. I am not sold on Smart (too short and inconsistent shot and not a true PG). I love James Young in the top 10.

If this video is in any way accurate I'm still having Randle #2 or #3. He's so good. I like his double pump in the air bankshots. Switching his hand midair to get better balance(e.g. switching to right hand when he jumped off the left foot). He's so good boxing guys out. He'll create some midrange faceup game to mix with his back to the basket and driving moves. He's 19 he's got time to develop that. I like his long range shot. Arc and rotation are looking good. He just doesn't have a consistent point of release(sometimes on his way up, sometimes right after the apex). But his aim is up there. Shots are missing barely. He has to find a way to be efficient when pushing the ball in transition. He can't do behind the back dribbles because he's afraid to get stripped. If you do such a move you need a continuation. It freezes the defender and you gotta use that moment to make a followup move like a crossover change of direction style move.
The only knock which worries me a little is that he's not capable of using the right hand. The other weaknesses, I'm not concerned about. Plenty of time to work on them and he's doing all the right things. He has the highest floor IMO of all the prospects. Worst case he's a more nimble version of David West. Best case he's LaMarcus Aldridge from midrange, Kevin Love in the post and David West defensively. Maybe he'll even be able to shoot threes. But I think he should be more concerned about his midrange game as that fits better together with his post skills. That's a heck of a player.
If he can't make his offhand good enough to hit hooks with he's just got to develop a fade away out of the post so you can't overplay his left hand. It's all fixable and I'd say he's tied with Parker at #2 right now.
