What's new

Following potential 2014 draftees

Rodney Hood (I realize I'm being a homer, but at least the dude has produced. He doesn't have the potential, but he has produced)

Gary Harris (undersized, but dynamite player)

Nik Stauskas (good size, surprisingly athletic, he's white, great shooter)

McDermott (well...maybe not for us, but he's a better Kelly Olynk)

Smart (dynamite defender, he can defend the 2, he's a driver which means he'll get to the line a lot, emotional, leader)

Gordon (plays good defense, very athletic, very versatile)

All of these guys have at least one tangible basketball skill that they are elite at (except for maybe Hood). What does Young have? Athleticism...that's it. I like basketball players who produce, and Young ain't producing.

I do like Stauskas. He has made a huge jump from last year. Shorter Hayward (because he's white) with a better shot?

I don't know if I like those players better than Young, and neither of us know if Young will get drafted after all those players. What you are saying carries no weight.

I am saying trading down in the NBA Draft is a bad practice. Pick the BPA at your pick because the assets you receive by trading down are marginal.

You're saying some hypothetical scenario where a player you like better than the players above him is for sure magically going to be available at whatever spot you want to trade down to.

I'm saying, as a Rule, never ever trade down in the NBA Draft. Just don't do it. It's been proven that you don't get enough of an asset haul.

All good points. Just wanted to know what your argument was.

Oh, my example of trading down being a good thing is when Orlando traded Bortchardt to the Jazz. They lucked out of that problem.

Another note on Young....

Including this game against LSU, he's had exactly 5 games where he has shot at least 50%.

He's had 9 games where he's shot under 40%.

He's had 6 games where he's been inbetween 40% and 50%.

So in almost half his games he's shot under 40%...tell me again why we're supposed to think he's a good shooter?

Still love randle.
Eff the haterz (pkm)

This is not a slight to PKM in anyway, because I've done it 100 times too, but he's just a frustrated fan right now (I know he will or would deny this so let's get that out of the way right now). UK just lost to a pretty mediocre LSU team and Randle had what was probably his worst game of the season on both ends of the floor. Let's check back in in a couple weeks or a couple months and we'll see where he and others stand on JR. Again, we tend to be a "what have you done for me lately" crowd and it's easy to rip Kentucky and especially Randle after tonight's game.

Better shooter, similar athleticism, more emotional (this is good and bad), similar handle, I think Hayward has better court vision, Hayward is probably a better defender as well. I think Stauskas is more confident, and more willing to shoot.

Hantlers throwin it down tonight. I like it.

If you're going to draft somebody based on potential, he has to have at least one basketball skill that he's good at, and athleticism isn't a basketball skill.

Name one basketball skill that Young is actually good to very good at.

Dunking?

Not sure if srs, but they traded back 1 pick and got Ryan Humphrey and Jamal Sampson for their troubles. So umm, ya.
