Watched teh game today, maybe I wouldn't mind McDermott. IDK. He is such a good scorer.
I was about to post this same thing.
He's an intriguing prospect. Reminds me of a Chandler Parsons or a young Matt Harpring. People forget how good Harpring was before knee injuries and age slowed him down. A nice stretch 4 or a big 3. Could provide a lot of match up problems in this nba that seems to be moving towards more and more 3 pt shooting.
I wouldn't take him in the top 8 in this draft. However, mid to late lotto? Absolutely. Especially if our new HC can run a system that makes sense. I mean, could you imagine what McDermott would do in the Suns, Warriors, Rockets, or Spurs systems?
McDermott needs a system like one of those listed above. If he gets drafted to the wrong team he will have a terrible career. He's a very good college player, but NBA is different.
This.
If he lands on team like the Bobcats or Hawks, he's screwed.
Draftexpress has him going to the magic. I don't know what they try to do these days. However, if they still had Dwight and SVG, he would fit in perfectly as their stretch 4.
I'm guessing will probably go mid-first round. Meaning, if we can't get him hopefully he goes to a team with a solid system. I think it would be fun to watch him on the Spurs, Rockets, Warriors, or Suns. Could you imagine what Hornacek or Pops could do with him?
If he is still available whenever the warriors pick is and we don't take him I'll be pissed. If we ever get back to a Sloan-like offensive system that kid would be dynamite off the bench as a 3. I see young Matt Harpring who was awesome before injuries. Or he could be used as a stretch 4 (like Marvin but with a post game). One bright spot in Corbin's offense has been his use of a stretch 4.
Actually I think the Bobcats would be a great place for McDermott. They could really use a shooter. Their offense isn't that bad, they just don't have any shooters outside of Anthony Tolliver, who they play out of position at backup SF. If Tolliver can be a SF on the Bobcats and they are still a top 10 defensive team, I think they could play McDermott there.
So the question about McDermott is whether he can defend 3s or 4s better? Or should I say where does he hurt you least defensively?
Wherever the worst player is. IF you look at the Bobcats, they have MKG on the team, who can guard 3's or 4's. If McDermott is starting, you just give MKG the harder matchup at either position.
