If there was ever a time to get your hopes up, it's now. I'll still be way excited if we land someone like Harrison, Gordon and so on. But until the ping pong balls have sorted out and I KNOW we're not getting Wiggins or Jabari, I'm going to continue fantasizing about it.

Should they do it? Maybe. Will they do it? Never, with the circumstances being:
1. The Jazz would never give up on Burke after one year, even if he has a bad year. They will remember well Deron's first year was pretty bad.
2. PGs are a near commodity and Burke would fetch little on the open market, certainly not anything close to the value of both a 14 and 21 pick.

The Jazz knew they could realistically get Harrison next year if they really liked him, and have scouted him plenty I would guess, so why would they burn the 14th and 21st pick on a one year rental? We will likely never know, as I think the Jazz will be doing everything humanly possible to move up for Jabari Parker.

I think you're over-thinking it a little. They needed a young PG. One that they really liked became available. They took him. I promise you no one in the FO was thinking, "But what will we do if Andrew Harrison is BPA for us next year!?!?!"
But I agree on Parker. I think we're accumulating as many assets as humanly possible to give us a shot at moving up a few spots in the 2014 draft. Hopefully to get a player like Jabari Parker, if the lottery doesn't go our way.

I'll disagree with you a bit. The Jazz had to make their picks and draft day trades without knowing the direction that free agency would go. I think there was still disagreement in the front office regarding Millsap, Foye, etc. How do we know? Lindsey talked about getting back to the "Bird's right FA's" after the draft; the Jazz had mentioned wanting many of their FA's back; they were linked to various mid-level FA's. I think there were two plans being discussed: A) let the young guys take over as starters, but still have solid players behind them. Compete for the playoffs. Imagine a big rotation of Millsap/Favors/Kanter. A wing rotation of Hayward, Mayo and Burks. And Burke and Mo (or Calderon) at PG. Perhaps add a stretch player like Copeland. Resign DeMarre. That's a 7th/8th seed right there. Or B) what the Jazz are doing right now. But that didn't open up until after the draft and until a few days into free agency. The Jazz really kept all their FA's waiting except Jefferson. And it really was out of left field that GS decided to pursue Iguodala and had to dump all that salary. At that point, Lindsey was able to swing the others over to his side. The assets coming our way were just too good. Plus the Jazz retain the ability to trade those expirings at the deadline or next summer. It's double-dipping!

Not sure any team is going to budge. This will be like the 2010 draft in which KOC admitted he tried to move up, but no one would consider dropping out of the top-5. If I were GM and had the #1 pick, I'm not sure ANY offer would sway me from picking Wiggins. Offer me Durant, straight up? I say no. An all-world player on a rookie salary for 4 years. You can't top the return on investment you'll get. And at #2? OK, give me Kanter or Favors, Hayward and the #21. You're getting a potential superstar, so I need a lot of assets (look, they're not even ALL-STARS and the #21 will be a backup or project).
This. I've said before the ONLY chance a team deals the #1 is if it's CLE to MIA.

I think we're really shooting for the stars in the '14 draft exactly because of this. I think they really see Burke as a long term solution at the PG position. He isn't flashy. He isn't going to demand Max deal. We can't afford that with Kanter & Favors on the roster. Therefore Burke is the perfect PG for us, someone who runs the team, steady hands (Burke had very low Assist/TO ratio in college), and can knock down those 3's. Those guys aren't max guys (Conley, Chalmers, Fisher, etc), but you usually find them PGs on Championship teams....
We're going all out for Wiggins/Jabari the way this is shaping up.
