Following potential 2015 draftees

i just had a crazy thought what if tomic has said that he will come to the US but not the Jazz and he is part of the trade with the New York. I could see his agent (wink wink) talk to the knicks and say he will come over but they have to get his rights from utah.

Jazz planning for a late night. Big board is going up now. KOC and all the coaches have been in town for a week working on the draft. They brought back their European scout who had retired. Will continue tonight.

Jazz are agressivley pursuing every avenue for improving the team. But sometimes it takes another team to cooperate.

Upper management met with Millers yesterday to brief them on plans and strategy for the offseason.

Future draft classes factor into decisions for this draft.

Big board is not filled out completely, but it will be tonight. Then they leave it, sleep on it and look at it again in the morning. The different trade scenarios makes the board very fluid.***

Because of the preparation the Jazz feel the calm before the storm. They are ready. They are ready to move on multiple options. Some trading scenarios may already be worked out depending on what players are available. More could happen as the draft begins.

Even the four year players need development. Jazz need more shooting, need more production from the guards. Need help at the backups. The foreign players in this draft are very interesting, but the foreign Jazz players like Raul Neto are also being discussed for future plans.

*** This is very interesting to me. I thought the Jazz simply ranked the prospects in an ordered list. But apparently their board incorporates some method of Jazz ranking and some other measure that is impacted by what other teams are doing. What an interesting and dynamic system to assemble and maintain.

Some thoughts...

- I wouldn't trade Gobert straight up for Cousins, let alone include additional assets. Cousins is one of the best young big men in the NBA & under contract for 3 years, so you'd have to at least consider it if it were Favors+ (depending on the +). He would be a good fit alongside Gobert, who wouldn't be scared to keep him in check if necessary. Also, Snyder would demand 100% from him & wouldn't be scared to get on him if he wasn't focused/hustling. Highly unlikely to happen, but a frontcourt of Cousins/Gobert would be the best in the NBA with arguably the best offensive & defensive big men in the league side by side.

- As far as Utah being a bad fit for Hezonja: I agree that he will require substantial playing time from the very beginning, so I would only trade up for him if the deal included Burks. If that were to happen, I see Utah as a great fit for him (& vice versa). I think he would be best off in a low-key environment (such as SLC) & on a young team that he can grow with. I know his attitude is somewhat of a concern, but as far as I can tell, while he is extremely confident, he seems like he needs to feel appreciated/part of the long-term plan (which I don't think he felt on Barcelona, which imo played a significant role in his erratic behavior/play). I believe, as long as he gets enough minutes, that he would excel under the watch/development of QS. I also believe that playing alongside someone who has a similar attitude (confident, expressive, intense, etc) & came from overseas as well in Gobert would be helpful in his transition. I think that he just wants to be a significant contributor on a winning team, which is something that he would have an opportunity to be in Utah.

- Players that I would trade #12/GSW 1st for: Towns, Okafor, Russell, Porzingis, Mudiay, & Hezonja.

- I like Payne, but I would not try to catch lightning in a bottle. Odds are you will be struck by lightning. I would however consider drafting him at #12 if nobody dropped & we were unable to find a suitable trade (preferably up). I think he would be an immediate upgrade over Burke as our backup PG & think he could provide the offense/outside shooting necessary to play alongside Exum, Hayward, Favors, & Gobert in the future (as well as provide insurance in the event that Exum doesn't develop as expected). I also like the idea of having a backcourt that includes 2 distributors & don't think Exum would have any problems guarding 2's. I highly doubt DL is concerned about taking a PG in the 1st rd of the draft 3 years in a row. If Payne is BPA, he will be the pick.

more thoughts on this.

- He would start for the knicks
- He is the perfect center for the triangle
- He makes the knocks much more viable
-

get err done DL

@Lockedonsports: Stanley Johnson "I talked to the Jazz in Chicago. Patrick Christopher showed me the facilities when I was in town. Coach Snyder is awesome"

So he did visit us.

Nah he said it right out in the interview that he DID NOT WORK OUT FOR US.

Source Confirms Jazz Looking To Move Up In Draft

By Jabari Davis

on June 24, 2015

The Utah Jazz may have ended the 2014-15 season seven games out of the Western Conference playoff race (38-44), but fans of the team had to be encouraged by the 21-11 finish to the year and impressive development of their talented young core. Gordon Hayward appeared more comfortable in his leadership role under rookie head coach Quin Snyder, and Rudy Gobert continued to develop at a rate that should have him in the All-Defensive team discussion within the next couple seasons.

General manager Dennis Lindsey mentioned the team’s willingness to spend the bulk of their available cap space this summer if the right opportunity were to present itself, but did not specify which direction the team might be looking. With rumors about a potential mutual interest between the team and soon-to-be free agent Paul Millsap beginning to circulate, we now have a source confirming the organization not only intends to move up in tomorrow’s draft, but could be willing to package assets and players to do so if necessary.

“They have enough depth and have assets on the roster,” said David Locke, the radio voice of the Utah Jazz. “I am certain they are trying to couple those assets, picks and players to move up.”

Locke went on to confirm this with Jordan Buscarini of KOAL 750 AM (the Jazz affiliate).

Locke didn’t go into which current assets such as the picks (12, 42, 54) or current players could be moved, but we are reminded of the rumors surrounding a potential move that would have involved power forward Derrick Favors just prior to last year’s draft. The team may have vehemently denied them last summer, but those dots aren’t exactly difficult to connect if the murmurings about Millsap ultimately come to fruition.

So in two seperate deals Charlotte acquired Nicolus Batum from Portland and Jeremy Lamb from OKC. Hornets gave up VonLeh, Gerald Henderson and Matt Barnes who was acquired from the Clippers last week as part of the Lance Stephenson Trade.

BUT NO DRAFT PICKS WERE EXCHANGED.

Charlotte still owns the 9th pick.

Sources: OKC engaged on fronts trying to unload a contract to solidify ability to keep Enes Kanter, Kyle Singler in restricted free agency.
