Following potential 2015 draftees

Meh... I've watched a few highlights... I'll watch a game or two before the season is over, but numbers matter. He rebounds well, blocks a ton of shots, and shoots the ball very well for a big guy. He has the highest PER of anyone projected to be drafted this year. In theory he has a skill set that would line up will with our current talent... he seems really interesting to me.

I don't know if he is soft, but I wouldn't dismiss the guy even if he was. Trevor Booker is a tough guy, but he sucks at shooting, passing, and ball handling... Ryan Anderson is soft but is still an effective NBA player. Outside of the consensus top 4 guys I think Turner has as much potential or more potential than any other player in the draft. Every prospect has shortcomings... the big knock on Wiggins was that he was passive.

1) Numbers, without film, mean very little. Film means everything. Typically people who just look at numbers are wrong more often than they are right.

2) One or two soft guys typically isn't a problem. We have a team full of them. We need confident, aggressive players incredibly badly. That alone makes a big difference in the composition of a roster.

I disagree on the numbers stuff though... If he was coming from some obscure college playing in the Big Sky or something than numbers wouldn't mean much... I'd say if anything guys who go off of film solely and ignore numbers will be wrong more often than the numbers guys who never watched film. Don't ignore the results of him being on the floor... he scores efficiently, rebounds, and blocks shots.

PKM, what do you think about Devin Booker? From the limited footage and games I've seen he's my sneaky favorite player this year so far. His shot is money and he seems to have great skills. I read somewhere(maybe here) a comparison with Klay Thompson and I can definitely see the resemblance there. 6'6''-6'7'' wingspan is not ideal, but his athleticism and quickness might be good enough to compensate. What do you think about him and do you see him as an above average defender in the league? What about on the offensive end? Do you think he has the skills to be more than a spot-up shooter?

Also... in different mocks I see him going into 2015 or 2016 draft. Which one do you think he'd go for?

He is Klay-like with his shooting.. he is WAY more than a spot up shooter. Leaks in transition, slashes baseline, midrange.. he's the full package offensively. The better news is he's becoming our best perimeter defender. Focused, tenacious, and willing to make that his thing on a rare off-shooting night.

He is near 50% on the year from 3 and most are contested. If you remove the first few games of his freshman year, he's actually at 60%.

And he plays poised, smooth, and heady. Klay is a good comp.

So far, I look at this draft class and I see three players with All Star potential--Okafor, Towns and Hezonja.

I realize that WCS has top-5 DPOY potential, but I also think that he's had the benefit of playing next to some pretty good defensive players, like Noel, Poythress, Dakari Johnson, Towns, etc. in some decent defensive schemes, so it gives him the freedom to roam a bit and might make him look a bit better than he'd look in the pros.

I agree overall.. but WCS has not benefited from them.. they have benefited from him. He can guard anybody in college ball, any position. That, actually, is saying a lot.

Keep in mind that Klay when coming out of college was MUCH more limited player than he is now. He was known for his offense and people were saying he will struggle in defense because he lacked athleticism. His finishing around the rim and in transition was horrible. Klay is one of the great success-stories of the league when it comes to putting in the hard work and succeeding through gradual and constant improvements in order to come to the level he is at now. I bet a lot of it is coaching, too. GS has some amazing coaching and keeps improving their coaching staff too. It is NOT coincidence that Klay, Green, Barnes have all made huge strides and are now starting for the best team in the league.

Klay basically looked like Kyle Korver in college. His game and especially his defense have really opened up.
