Following potential 2015 draftees

I think you guys are getting desperate for a trade up. If we trade up we will trade up at draft night and we will trade up for a player not for the spot. That is - we will target a specific player, not simply to move up and pick one of a bunch of players. If the specific player we target is not there, we simply won't trade up... I personally would only trade up for Hezonja, Russell and possibly Porzingis and two of those are quite possibly out of reach for anything reasonable I would be willing to trade for them. I don't think it's worth it trading up from 12 to 8-9 for anybody else. Chances are several great players will fall to 12 and we will have our chance to pick whoever we like best. I don't want to trade up to 9 for Johnson when we can have Turner or Oubre or Portis or Kaminsky at 12. To me those players are very close on the board and whoever drops I'd be more than happy to get them. It's just not worth it.

If we were trading for a player and not the spot, wouldn't that mean we would move up for the player no matter what spot he is picked, or am I misunderstanding?

I mean we won't trade up and then think who we should be getting at that spot. If we move we will move in order to pick a specific player. That's why I doubt any trade will happen before draft night...

Ummm. He has three years left and can opt out after two. The Jazz still have him all of 2015/16 and at least until the deadline of 2016/17 (after the salary cap jumps). If I'm DL, I wait to see how he develops between now and then. Way too early to jump that gun.

you prefer to keep him and make him a 22 million dollar man after he opts out next summer?

Can you use those 22M to find a better player? If the answer is no - then you resign him... Luxury tax will be 120M the year his contract would kick in. We can afford signing pretty much every single one of our young players without going into luxury tax.

I would trade 12 for 16 and 28. There is just so much value from 10-20 in this draft. Plus DL has hit with two guys in the twenties (Gobert, Hood).
This appealed to me at first too. I've since decided though that this draft isn't that deep in the 20's. We would likely get a garbage player at 28 and would just end up trading 12 for 16.

Makes me nervous. I'm guessing the FO (with a lot more info than us) has a smaller group of guys they want at 12 than most of us. If they really like Looney they should just pick him at 12 instead of expecting/hoping he's there at 16. Just go get your guy.

late first can be had for second and cash probably... there are teams that would want to save money. No need for us to give up our position, especially since it looks like somebody good will fall to 12.

This is true. If the draft was today I'd hope Oubre was there at 12.

The problem with that is Utah would have two guaranteed salaries from this draft. I guess there are a few guys who show some promise who would be good picks at #28. Jazz just don't need the depth; it's time to get quality over quantity.

I'd trade up for Mouhammadou Jaiteh as a backup center. If not the tail end of the first, then the early part of the second round. I think he's going to be really, really good.
